\n\n<\/a>\nCongratulations to Valdosta’s new state rep for District 177\nDexter Sharper who won by 67% to 33% over opponent Glenn Gregory,\nwho fought a spirited and clean campaign.\nI look forward to Representative Sharper\n\nmeeting with the governor<\/a>\nand working for our community without compromise under the gold dome in Atlanta.\n<\/p>\n

\nI’ll come back to the other statehouse races in a separate post.\nDitto the other statewide races.\nMeanwhile, congratulations to some local winners below.\n<\/p>\n

\n\n<\/a>\nCongratulations new Lowndes County Commissioner for District 4\nDemarcus Marshall, winning 64.91% to 35.09%\nafter spirited debate and much agreement\nwith opponent John Gates.\nI look forward to Commissioner Marshall\n\ngrappling with education, jobs, tourism, and personnel<\/a>\ndown at the county palace.\n<\/p>\n

\n\n<\/a>\n\nCongratulations on re-election,<\/a> Lowndes County Sheriff Chris Prine!\nChallenger J.D. Yeager fought a good fight, but the voters said\n63.53% to 36.47% they did not\nwant to go back to the previous administration.\nI look forward to Sheriff Prine continuing to protect the safety of\nall the citizens of Lowndes County, including those in the cities.\n<\/p>\n

\n\n<\/a>\nCongratulations Solicitor General Justin Cabral on retaining your post\n51.56% to 48.44%!\nVery honorable mention to challenger Jason Cain,\nwho canvassed himself pretty close to winning.\n<\/p>\n

\nCongratulations Joyce Evans\n\n\nfor winning re-election unopposed to County Commssion District 1,\nand to\n\nJohn Page<\/a> for winning his primary and for winning the general election\nunopposed for District 5.\n<\/p>\n

\nCongratulations to new County Commission Chairman-elect Bill Slaughter\non winning 53.85% to 46.17% over opponent Gretchen Quarterman.\nSee\n\nother post for more information.<\/a>\n<\/p>\n

\nAnd congratulations to all the other unopposed winners.\nAlthough, why is it we have so many unopposed races, anyway?\n<\/p>\n

\n\n<\/a>\nLast, but certainly not least, congratulations to\nLake Park former Mayor pro-tem and new Mayor-elect Eric Schindler for winning\nover Michelle Ina Lane 58.31% to 41.69%.\nMaybe this will end\n\nLake Park’s succession of mayors-of-the-week.<\/a>\n<\/p>\n

\nMayor Schindler won by 51 votes.\nThe more local the election, even more your vote counts.\nAs\n\nthe VDT noted today:<\/a>\n<\/p>\n

\n

\nLowndes County enjoyed a turnout of 75.84 percent as 38,829 of it’s\n51,198 registered voters cast ballots. The election results are not\nyet final and will be certified Friday by the Board of Elections.\n<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

\nThe results of many a local election could have been different if those\nother 25% (including students) had turned out.\n<\/p>\n

\nThe county alcohol sales referendum passed 59.80% to 40.20%.\n<\/p>\n
