Glenn Gregory (R).\n(All election data in this post is from\n<a href=\"http:\/\/results.enr.clarityelections.com\/GA\/42277\/111091\/en\/summary.html\">GA Secretary of State.<\/a>)\n<\/p>\n<p>\nConversely, Jason Shaw (R-176) ran unopposed, perhaps because\nhe is the least offensive of the incumbents (he voted\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2012\/03\/stop-the-privatization-of-public-education-in-georgia-fannie-jackson.html\"> against HB 1162<\/a>\nthat put\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2012\/11\/most-corrupt-state-sells-public-education-to-waltons.html\">\nthe Atlanta-power-grab &#8220;charter school&#8221; amendment<\/a> on the ballot,\nalthough\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2012\/09\/public-schools-to-be-treated-less-favorably-than-charter-schools.html\">\nhe did vote for HB 797<\/a>\nthat will funnel more of your local tax dollars to charter schools\nimposed by Atlanta even if your school board doesn&#8217;t want them).\n<\/p>\n<p>\nOther south Georgia statehouse incumbents, all Republicans, had\nchallengers, all Democrats.\nAll the challengers opposed Amendment 1.\nHaley Shank did best, in District 173 against Darlene K. Taylor,\n8,324 to 12,048 (40.86% to 59.14%).\n<\/p>\n<p>\nNext was\n\n<!--more-->\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=7e1sedUmH7U&amp;list=PLshUv86fYkiFnHhop4kbUGZj7PhAYRUu5&amp;index=3&amp;feature=plpp_video\">\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none;\" class=\"at-xid-6a0120a58214e4970b017c32da39d5970b\" src=\"\/blog\/images\/6a0120a58214e4970b017c32da39d5970b-pi.jpg\"    \/><\/a>\nTeresa Lawrence against Ellis Black (Turncoat-174),\nwith 5,050 to 11,500 (30.51% to 69.49%).\n<\/p>\n<p>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/playlist?list=PLshUv86fYkiE_i9SpkCedg0uaM25kLsI2&amp;feature=view_all\">\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none;\" class=\"at-xid-6a0120a58214e4970b017c333b0fa1970b\" src=\"\/blog\/images\/6a0120a58214e4970b017c333b0fa1970b-pi.jpg\"    \/><\/a>\nFinally among statehouse insurgents,\nJ.C. Cunningham opposed Amy Carter (Turncoat-175),\ngetting 6,573 to 15,732 (29.47% to 70.53%).\n<\/p>\n<p>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/playlist?list=PLshUv86fYkiE7TN9IIkos-hADh6jKo-xw&amp;feature=view_all\">\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none;\" class=\"at-xid-6a0120a58214e4970b017c333b0fcb970b\" src=\"\/blog\/images\/6a0120a58214e4970b017c333b0fcb970b-pi.jpg\"    \/><\/a>\nAnd for State Senate, Bikram Mohanty opposed\nTim Golden (Turncoat-8), getting 21,998 to 36,287 (37.74% to 62.26%).\nGolden apparently felt the heat, since he retaliated against criticism of his voting record\nwith a personal attack on his opponent.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nIn that attack he made the mistake of misusing LAKE materials,\nresulting in\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2012\/11\/tim-golden-campaign-admits-using-lake-video-without-attribution-wctv.html\">\nlegal action by LAKE (covered as news by WCTV)<\/a> and\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2012\/11\/vote-no-on-amendment-1-lake-walb-ad.html\">\na LAKE TV ad in the same WALB market<\/a>\nas Golden&#8217;s attack ad.\nMaybe Golden should be more careful how he treats constituents.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nAll of Black, Carter, and Golden voted for both HB 1162 and HB 797,\nand all three ran two years ago as Democrats and a few weeks later\nswitched to be Republicans,\n<a href=\"http:\/\/lowndescounty.walb.com\/news\/news\/60579-district-8-state-senate-candidates-respond-attack-ads\">\nas WALB reminded us:<\/a>\n<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\nThis is the first time Tim Golden has run as a Republican. He\nswitched parties after he was re-elected two years ago. Mohanty is\nthe Democratic nominee.\n<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\nThat&#8217;s how they earned the party label Turncoat: from DINO to RINO.\nThe turncoats have just seen they can&#8217;t run without opposition.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nVoters who voted for the incumbents:\nremember the only one of\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2012\/10\/videos-of-candidates-aauw-2012-10-24.html\">\nfour political forums in Lowndes County<\/a>\nthe incumbents showed up for\nwas the one run by the Chamber of Commerce,\nin which no questions were asked of the candidates\n(and Black didn&#8217;t even bother to show up to that one).\nYou may ask yourself: who do the incumbent turncoats represent?\nApparently not you, the voters.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nSo far as I know, only Mohanty among the challengers had significant funding.\nImagine what a well-funded insurgent could do!\n<\/p>\n<p>\n-jsq\n<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Hardly-funded insurgents led by Haley Shank put a scare into turncoat south Georgia statehouse incumbents.
