Fanning, CEO of the Southern Company, let alone any\r\ninsignificant college president or elected official.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"border:none\">\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/deadspin.com\/infographic-is-your-states-highest-paid-employee-a-co-489635228\">\r\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"border:none;\" width=\"500\" src=\"http:\/\/img.gawkerassets.com\/img\/18n60kp6w6189png\/k-bigpic.png\"><\/a>\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\nIf I&#8217;m reading\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/b2.caspio.com\/dp.asp\">\r\nthe ESPN database<\/a> right,\r\nUGA coaches get around $14 million a year,\r\nwhile Georgia Power CEO Paul Bowers gets only<!--more-->\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/investing.businessweek.com\/research\/stocks\/people\/person.asp?personId=2144777&#038;ticker=SO\">\r\n$5.5 million compensation<\/a>\r\nand Southern Company CEO Thomas A. Fanning gets only\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/investing.businessweek.com\/research\/stocks\/people\/person.asp?personId=4905664&#038;ticker=SO\">\r\n$13 million<\/a>.\r\nSo maybe I&#8217;ve been unfairly\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/2013\/04\/utilities-levy-an-absurd-tax-upon-the-rest-of-their-fellow-citizens-mdashadam-smith.html\">\r\ngriping about electric utility executive compensation<\/a>.\r\nMaybe if\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/2013\/04\/how-can-we-get-georgia-to-move-ahead-in-solar-power.html\">\r\nwe the ratepayers and shareholders and voters<\/a>\r\ninsisted on raising their pay to match football coaches, maybe we&#8217;d get\r\nreal safety and return on investment instead of\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/2013\/05\/look-at-southern-companys-safety-performance-so-ceo-fanning.html\">\r\nfeeble excuses for cost overruns<\/a>.\r\nMaybe Georgia Power and Southern Company would even have a chance of winning\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/2013\/05\/the-super-bowl-of-disruptive-distributed-energy-georgia-power-and-southern-company-are-losing.html\">\r\nthe Super Bowl of disruptive distributed solar power<\/a>!\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\nSure, I know Bowers and Fanning are not public employees.\r\nBut Georgia Power is a public utility, regulated by the\r\nGeorgia Public Service Commission,\r\nwhich isn&#8217;t doing much else to get either company to\r\nkick their old-style big baseload capacity mainline addiction\r\nand get on with distributed solar and wind.\r\nMaybe GA PSC should insist on raising their pay!\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\n -jsq\r\n<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Come on, guess!
