{"id":328,"date":"2012-11-16T10:34:08","date_gmt":"2012-11-16T15:34:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/2012\/11\/keep-waste-sites-open-and-reprioritize-splost-william-geyer-lcc-2012-11-13.html"},"modified":"2012-11-16T10:34:08","modified_gmt":"2012-11-16T15:34:08","slug":"keep-waste-sites-open-and-reprioritize-splost-william-geyer-lcc-2012-11-13","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/2012\/11\/keep-waste-sites-open-and-reprioritize-splost-william-geyer-lcc-2012-11-13.html","title":{"rendered":"Keep waste sites open and reprioritize SPLOST &mdash;William Geyer @ LCC 2012-11-13"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=NEIHBVU7oKw\">\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none;\" class=\"at-xid-6a0120a58214e4970b017c3394f9e2970b\" src=\"\/blog\/images\/6a0120a58214e4970b017c3394f9e2970b-pi.jpg\"    \/><\/a>\nWilliam Geyer expressed two widespread opinions,\nkeep the solid waste disposal sites open, and reprioritize SPLOST,\nwhen he spoke at Tuesday&#8217;s\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2012\/11\/video-playlist-lcc-2012-11-13.html\">\nLowndes County Commission Regular Session.<\/a>\nCounty Manager Joe Pritchard, the driving force behind the waste disposal decision,\nstill wasn&#8217;t listening.\n<\/p>\n<h3>Keep the solid waste disposal sites open<\/h3>\nSaying he was William Geyer of 5474 Union Road, Hahira,\nhe asked the Commission to\nreconsider their solid waste plan, and to keep the waste disposal sites open.\n<blockquote>\nThere&#8217;s people out there that can&#8217;t afford\nwhat y&#8217;all are offering.\nAnd with a budget as large as we got, I know there&#8217;s some way\nto keep them open.\nNot only that, Florida has them, and they don&#8217;t even man them.\nI talk to a lot of people out there,\nthey don&#8217;t come here,\nbut I wish you really would reconsider,\nbecause it is a plus for this county,\nthe elderly,\na lot of people here who are struggling, who can&#8217;t afford it.\nI&#8217;m not saying I can&#8217;t; I can afford it,\nbut there&#8217;s a lot of people here who can&#8217;t afford it.\n<\/blockquote>\n<h3>Reprioritize SPLOST<\/h3>\nGeyer noted SPLOST was supposed to be for paving roads, but\nlots of roads hadn&#8217;t gotten paved.\n<blockquote>\nAt that first SPLOST meeting, it was around 1984 or 5\nthey did my road, Union Road.\nWhat happened to the rest of the roads that are dirt?\nWe&#8217;ve somehow lost our priorities.\nWe want a new library, we want a new this or that.\nWhat about these people who live on these dirt roads\nthat were promised they&#8217;d be paved.\nCounty Manager, how many miles of dirt roads do we have in this county?\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.lowndescounty.com\/content.asp?pid=23&amp;id=129\">\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none;\" class=\"at-xid-6a0120a58214e4970b0168e9ba30e5970c\" src=\"\/blog\/images\/6a0120a58214e4970b0168e9ba30e5970c-pi.jpg\"    \/><\/a>\nCounty Manager Joe Pritchard obviously wasn&#8217;t listening,\n&#8220;Pardon me?&#8221; he said, after the Chairman prodded him.\nHe didn&#8217;t know, either; he motioned\n\n<!--more-->\nto County Engineer Mike Fletcher,\nwho responded,\n&#8220;About 408.&#8221;\n<\/p>\n<p>\nGeyer continued:\n<\/p>\n<blockquote>\nWe need to get our priorities right&#8230;.\nI&#8217;m just saying as a person in my first time coming here,\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2012\/11\/splost-vii-lost.html\">\nthe people have spoken.<\/a>\nLet&#8217;s give them a break.\nThey pay taxes.\nThank you very much.\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\nI can attest William Geyer is far from alone in both of his views,\nsince many people have told me the same things.\nIn many days of walking around this county, I have not found one person\nwho likes the county&#8217;s waste decision or the way it was decided.\nAnd what happened to some of that SPLOST paving money is\nthey paved some roads whose residents didn&#8217;t want them paved\nwhile not paving other roads whose residents did want them paved.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nHere&#8217;s\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=NEIHBVU7oKw\">\nthe video:<\/a>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/NEIHBVU7oKw\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<small>\nKeep waste sites open and reprioritize SPLOST \u2014William Geyer\n<br \/>\nRegular Session, Lowndes County Commission (LCC),\n<br \/>\nVideo by Gretchen Quarterman for Lowndes Area Knowledge Exchange (LAKE),\n<br \/>\nValdosta, Lowndes County, Georgia, 13 November 2012.\n<\/small>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n-jsq\n<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"William Geyer expressed two widespread opinions, keep the solid waste disposal sites open, and reprioritize SPLOST, when he spoke at Tuesday&#8217;s Lowndes County Commission Regular Session.
