In addition this project will aggregate<br \/>\ncommodities from surrounding farms for distribution which will support<br \/>\neconomic development among area farmers.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/valdostamainstreet.com\/activities\/farm-days\/\"><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none;\"   src=\"\/blog\/images\/6a0120a58214e4970b016305a5e4e7970d-pi.png\"><\/a><br \/>\nThe grant will pay for a full<br \/>\ntime farm manager over two years, a portable vegetable stand to be<br \/>\nused on a distribution route, travel cost associated with distribution<br \/>\nroute, and promotional and educational materials for Farm days and the<br \/>\nagricultural center. City of Valdosta staff assisted in the effort in<br \/>\nthe preparation of the grant application. This project has grown out<br \/>\nof the partnership between the City, the South Health District and the<br \/>\nPartnership for Health with the Farm Days Farmers Market.  The last<br \/>\nmarket day for the year will be held on Saturday, October 20th.\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>\nHere&#8217;s<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ams.usda.gov\/AMSv1.0\/getfile?dDocName=STELPRDC5100605\"><br \/>\nthe USDA&#8217;s paragraph<\/a> on that award:\n<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\n$96,858 to Lowndes County Partnership for Health, Inc., Valdosta,<br \/>\nGA, for a community\u2010supported agricultural center that will serve<br \/>\nas a food hub and educational center to increase access to<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.usda.gov\/wps\/portal\/usda\/usdahome\"><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none;\" class=\"at-xid-6a0120a58214e4970b017d3dc66b2f970c\" src=\"\/blog\/images\/6a0120a58214e4970b017d3dc66b2f970c-pi.jpg\"    \/><\/a><br \/>\naffordable, nutritious, local food in low\u2010income food deserts in<br \/>\nSouth Georgia by purchasing a mobile farmers market van, offering<br \/>\na series of workshops to train vendors, and establishing<br \/>\ncommunity gardens for resident use.\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>\nThat&#8217;s good news!<br \/>\nBut please, can we <em>not<\/em> use this grant to move the location<br \/>\nof Valdosta Farm Days?<br \/>\nIt&#8217;s got a great site right where it is, around the historic<br \/>\nLowndes County Courthouse.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n-jsq<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Received 12 October 2012 from Tim Carroll from Mara Register from Larry Hanson.
