\r\n\r\n<\/a>\r\nLowndes County: voice mail.\r\nGA EPD: written response within minutes about that wastewater spill\r\ninto the Withlacoochee River that turns out to be from a Lowndes County\r\nsewer line (not Valdosta’s).\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\nAfter \r\nI called Lowndes County<\/a> and got referred to voice mail,\r\nI \r\nfiled an open records request with the county.<\/a>\r\nI then called GA EPD in Albany and talked to Mary Sheffield.\r\nShe said that compliance issues are handled from the Atlanta\r\nOffice and provided the number.\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\nI called GA EPD in Atlanta and asked for the Lowndes County\r\nCompliance Officer. She kindly told me that there had been some\r\nconfusion about what government was responsible for the spill,\r\nbecause Valdosta called first but then Lowndes County did call and\r\ntake responsibility for the spill.\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\nShe said that the spill had been 1.32 Million Gallons and that so\r\nfar they had had a verbal report from the county and that the county\r\nhas 5 days to make a written report.\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\nFurther, she said she would e-mail me any information that she had\r\nat this time, although the verbal reports are not “official”.\r\nAnd before I finished typing this up, she sent this response:\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\nMs. Quarterman,\r\n

\r\n\r\n<\/a>\r\nThe Lowndes County spill was originally reported to the Environmental\r\nProtection Division by the City of Valdosta on 4\/25\/2013. After\r\nresponding to the spill, the City of Valdosta determined that the\r\nspill was coming from a portion of sanitary sewer collection system\r\nthat belonged to Lowndes County. Lowndes County (County) responded\r\nto the spill on 4\/25\/2013. This morning, the County reported that\r\nthe spill was approximately 1.32 million and entered the Withlacoochee\r\nRiver.\r\n

\r\nIf I understand correctly, Lowndes County now has 5 days to file\r\na complete spill report. I’ll be interested in that when it is\r\navailable.\r\n<\/p>\r\n\tGretchen\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n
