\n\n<\/a>\nSome interesting questions have come up in\nGabe Fisher's continuing correspondence with the City of Valdosta\nabout\n\nsewage in his back yard<\/a>\nand\n\nunder his house,<\/a>\nwhile\n\nCity Council Tim Carroll continues to respond,<\/a>\nboth copying a long list of people.\n<\/p>\n

\nAll, I appreciate the update on where the city stands on moving the\nsewer all together\u2014I just wish we had been kept informed of\nthe plans over the last 4 years. Living with the *real* threat of\nflooding is stressful enough, add in the guaranteed associated\nsewage spill is more than I can handle.\n<\/p>\n

\nI also appreciate the city workers spreading lime and working on the\nsewer line behind my house today. But I have questions\u2014What\nabout the sewage in my yard and under my house? Is this my\nresponsibility?\n<\/p>\n

\nIn case you have not already done so…..go into the city website\nand sign up for the city newsletter. It will give you frequent\nupdates on what is going on.\n<\/p>\n

\nI am assuming with your email that you are not aware of the KVLB\nclean-up effort scheduled for this Saturday on Meadowbrook. Anyone\ninterested in volunteering please check it out.\n<\/p>\n

\nIn regards to sanitation picking up piles of debris- they are\ncoming. We only have so many crews and they still have to cover the\nregular routes.\n<\/p>\n

\nLet me also take this opportunity to update all on recent\ndevelopments-\n<\/p>\n

\nThe city has learned of FEMA funds being made available for\nwatershed studies. Mr. Hanson and his team submitted a\ncomprehensive request on this via the Army Corp of Eng for a\ndrainage basin study yesterday.\n<\/p>\n

\nMuch of the information is from our application and appeal back in\n2009, but now includes data from our most recent flood event.\n<\/p>\n

\nI will be presenting this information to WWALS tomorrow evening in\nAdel to solicit their support. WWALS is a river advocacy group\nconcentrating on rivers located within our watershed.\n<\/p>\n

\nThe county and city have reached an agreement on holding another\nSPLOST referendum in November. The WWTP was the largest item on the\nlist from last year, but with the denial from FEMA this past\nAugust- we now know all funding will have to come from SPLOST.\nConsequently it will leave only enough funds to address other\ninfrastructure needs but no quality of life projects such as parks\nor auditoriums. Both the city and county will finalize up the\ndetails of the list soon and begin making it available for public\ncomment and input. I have heard from several citizens regarding the\nproject list already.\n<\/p>\n

\nThat cleanup sounds like a fine idea, however\nKLVB doesn't list it in its\n\nupcoming events<\/a>\nnor in its\n\ncalendar<\/a>.\nThere is a KLVB board meeting coming up\n18 March 2013; maybe somebody could suggest they update their online\ninformation.\nThe City of Valdosta does not have this event in its\n\ncalendar<\/a>,\nbut it did post this event today\nunder Top Stories,\n\nPost Flood Cleanup, Saturday, March 16,<\/a>\n<\/p>\n

\nGabe Fisher, 2420 Meadowbrook again.. It has been 11 days since the\nwater receded and the huge pile of sewage infested debris we raked\nup and pulled to the street is still in my front yard! When can I\nexpect the city to come pick this up? Why wasn't this high\npriority?? And why am I having to reach out to the city about this?\nWhy haven't you reached out to me?\n<\/p>\n

\nI think that's a very good question.\nWhy do citizens of Valdosta or Lowndes County or other local cities\nhave to keep nagging their local governments just to find out what's\ngoing on?\nWhy does a city council member have to get involved in single cases\nlike this to get information to citizens?\nWhat if our local governments deployed issue tracking systems?\nSee\n\nnext post<\/a>.\n<\/p>\n
