\r\nLast month it was\r\nflooding at the Withlacoochee Wastwater Treatment Plant<\/a>.\r\nThis month it’s a broken sewer line.\r\nWTXL reported yesterday,\r\n\r\nSewer line burst in Valdosta — Sewage spewing into river<\/a>,\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\nNine hundred gallons of sewage is spewing onto the ground and into the\r\nWithlacoochee river, every single minute.\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n

\r\nHere’s Valdosta’s\r\n\r\nReport of Major Spill<\/a>\r\nfrom yesterday:\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\n

\r\nOn April 24, 2013, at 10:30 a.m., City of Valdosta Utility\r\nDepartment staff located a sanitary sewer overflow just west of the\r\nWithlacoochee River crossing on Highway 133. The cause of the\r\noverflow is a burst sewer main. The city and a local contractor are\r\nin the process of mobilizing staff and equipment to excavate and\r\nrepair the leaking main.\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\nThe city estimates that approximately 900 gallons per minute of\r\nsewage is being discharged onto the ground and reaching the\r\nWithlacoochee River.\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\n\r\n<\/a>\r\nDue to the possibility of high bacteria levels in the river, the\r\npublic should avoid contact with the Withlacoochee River south of\r\nthe bridge at Highway 133. Sampling of the river upstream and\r\ndownstream of the spill was initiated today.\r\n<\/p>\r\n
