\r\nThe Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Citizens Advisory Committee\r\nis charged with providing recommendations to the Mayor and City Council\r\nregarding the use of the federal entitlement funding received by the City\r\nof Valdosta through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development\r\n(HUD).\r\n

\r\nWho’s on it? Hard to say, although\r\n\r\n<\/a>\r\n her law firm announced\r\n\r\nJessica Young appointed to the Community Development Block Grant Advisory Committee…<\/a> for a four year term ending February 2017.\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\nWhy does it exist?\r\n\r\nApparently it was a requirement of a HUD block grant<\/a>:\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\nThe CDBG Advisory Committee was formed in compliance with the Citizen\r\nParticipation Plan of the City\u2019s Community Development Block Grant.\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n

\r\nYep,\r\n\r\nthat’s why<\/a>:\r\n

\r\nCommunity Development Block Grant regulations, as found in 24 CFR\r\n91.100-91.115, requires all Entitlement grantees to certify that\r\nthey are following a Citizen Participation Plan. To comply with\r\nthese requirements the city will form a Citizen Advisory Committee\r\nconsisting of seven members. All members shall be appointed by the\r\nCity Council. The Neighborhood Development staff will work with\r\nthese neighborhoods to identify residents interested in serving on\r\nthe committee. All appointees to the CDBG Citizen Advisory Committee\r\nshall serve four-year terms.\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n

\r\n\r\n<\/a>\r\nHow big was the grant?\r\nThe city expected $647,678; here’s\r\n\r\nMara Register explaining the plan to the Valdosta City Council<\/a> 7 April 2011.\r\nHUD thinks\r\n\r\nit actually allocated $564,566 in 2011<\/a>,\r\nand it looks like most of it usually goes towards housing.\r\n<\/p>\r\n
