{"id":3131,"date":"2013-04-25T12:24:00","date_gmt":"2013-04-25T16:24:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/?p=3131"},"modified":"2013-04-25T23:47:20","modified_gmt":"2013-04-26T03:47:20","slug":"georgia-behind-maryland-and-massachusetts-in-solar-power","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/2013\/04\/georgia-behind-maryland-and-massachusetts-in-solar-power.html","title":{"rendered":"Georgia behind Maryland and Massachusetts in solar power"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/2012\/05\/salute-for-less-coal-how-about-third-party-solar-mark-woodall-so-2012-05-23.html\">\r\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none;\" src=\"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/images\/6a0120a58214e4970b016766d95bce970b-pi.jpg\"><\/a>\r\n<p>\r\nCalifornia and Texas ahead of Georgia in solar power, sure,\r\nbut Maryland and Massachusetts,\r\nsmall and far to the north with less sun?\r\nDoes that seem right to you?\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.seia.org\/research-resources\/solar-industry-data\">\r\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"261\" height=\"282\" style=\"float:left;border:none;\" src=\"http:\/\/www.seia.org\/sites\/default\/files\/2012%20YIR%20State%20Rankings.JPG\"><\/a>\r\nAccording to the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA),\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.seia.org\/state-solar-policy\/georgia\">\r\nGeorgia should be number 5<\/a>.\r\nGeorgia should be moving up the rankings as fast as any state except\r\nmaybe Arizona or Colorado, according to\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/2011\/05\/georgia-3-state-that-could-benefit-most-from-solar-electricity.html\">\r\nan Arizona State University study of two years ago that said\r\nGeorgia was third among state that would \r\nbenefit from solar deployment through generating and exporting energy to other states<\/a>.\r\nThe U.S. as a whole\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/2013\/03\/us-installed-33-gigawatts-of-solar-in-2012-on-target.html\">\r\nkeeps installing far more solar power each year<\/a>,\r\nbut Georgia Power and Southern Company keep holding Georgia back.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/2013\/03\/nj-1-gw-solar-ga-22.html\">\r\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none;\" src=\"http:\/\/farm9.staticflickr.com\/8230\/8597007467_7d716453c0_n.jpg\"><\/a>\r\nIt&#8217;s great that Valdosta will soon get\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/2013\/04\/two-more-megawatts-of-local-solar-power-vlcia-2013-04-16.html\">\r\n2 more megawatts of local solar power<\/a>.\r\nBut while we&#8217;re waiting for Georgia Power to slowly get around to doling out\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/2012\/09\/georgia-power-inches-towards-more-solar.html\">\r\n277 megawatts<\/a> over several years,\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/2013\/03\/nj-1-gw-solar-ga-22.html\">\r\nNew Jersey has 1,000 megawatts already installed<\/a>.\r\n\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/2013\/03\/nj-1-gw-solar-ga-22.html\">\r\nGeorgia is #22<\/a>, behind #21 Connecticut.\r\nWhy do we let that continue?\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\n -jsq\r\n<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"California and Texas ahead of Georgia in solar power, sure, but Maryland and Massachusetts, small and far to the north with less sun?
