Some things like the\nsewer system can&#8217;t be put off, so we&#8217;ll have to look at other\nsources of revenue. We&#8217;ll have to see how things go.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\nThat&#8217;s not quite the same as saying the Five Points projects might be deleted,\nbut I certainly have heard people suggesting exactly that.\n<p>\nIn the discussion one of the library board members suggested\nthe city and county go ahead now and draw up a list of projects\nfor the next vote.\nHe later complained that the same people who voted against it\nare the ones who complain about potholes.\nAnd I think he was also the one who said SPLOST lost because\npeople didn&#8217;t want to pay the tax, not because of what was on the project list.\nI think that opinion comes from confusing the very visible\n&#8220;give yourself a raise&#8221; signs with the entire opposition,\nwhich was much larger than that, and mostly based on\nwhat was on the project lists.\nI think maybe the point that the people are tired of closed-door\nlists hasn&#8217;t quite gotten through.\nSee\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2012\/11\/splost-media-southside-library-videos-sglb-2012-11-20.html\">George Rhynes&#8217; editorial.<\/a>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2012\/10\/kickoff-speeches-splost-2012-09-28.html\">\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none;\"   src=\"\/blog\/images\/6a0120a58214e4970b017c3241af07970b-pi.jpg\"><\/a>\nSomeone said he wasn&#8217;t aware that there was\na SPLOST VII promotion committee co-chaired by Gail Green.\nHm, maybe if they&#8217;d invited the public to that\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2012\/10\/kickoff-speeches-splost-2012-09-28.html\">\nSPLOST VII Kickoff meeting<\/a>\nmore people would have known that.\nKay Harris more than once indicated that better efforts could have\nbeen made to sell the tax to the public.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nThere was some indication that some people thought that\n<a href=\"\/blog\/category\/lost\">\nthe cities and the counties squabbling over LOST<\/a>\nhad adversely affected SPLOST VII.\nAnd Kay Harris said County Manager Joe Pritchard didn&#8217;t want to talk about\nSPLOST VII more until the new Commissioners were in office.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nSomebody sitting at the end of the table with a nameplate Mary McRee\nsaid she thought the library should do its own marketing.\nShe said Ellis Black asked her &#8220;What&#8217;s your take on the library?&#8221;\nShe said &#8220;They want to know more about the transition&#8221;\nand whether the new library building would be needed.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nI heard no mention by anyone at this meeting\nof possibly using the downtown federal building for a new library.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n-jsq\n<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"At Tuesday&#8217;s South Georgia Library Board meeting. a board member (his nameplate said Willis Miller) wanted to know about SPLOST: How we know it&#8217;s going to come up next November or at another time?
