\r\nOne megawatt at DuPont\r\nand one megawatt at Valdosta’s Mud Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant:\r\nthat’s two more megawatts of solar power coming to Valdosta and Lowndes County!\r\nThis was revealed at the\r\n\r\n16 April 2013 Board Meeting<\/a>\r\nof the Valdosta-Lowndes County Industrial Authority.\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\n\r\n<\/a>\r\nProject Director Allan Ricketts was on a speaker phone,\r\nso Executive Director Andrea Schruijer gave the\r\n\r\nExisting Industry and Project Report<\/a>.\r\nShe thinks maybe three existing industry expansions in second and third quarter 2013.\r\nThey’ve continued working with a pharmaceutical company about locating here;\r\nmore on that later.\r\nContinued work with three renewable and sustainable energy companies,\r\nand Georgia Power is cooperating.\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\nWe did receive notification that two of those advanced solar initiatives\r\nhave been approved by Georgia Power Company.\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n

\r\nOne of them is a megawatt solar expansion at DuPont.\r\nThe other is a megawatt solar expansion at the City of Valdosta’s Mud Creek\r\nWastewater Plant.\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\nShe didn’t mention that in most states such projects\r\n\r\nwouldn’t have to be approved for doled-out quotas by a power company<\/a>.\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\nSchruijer also talked about\r\n\r\nthe Logistics Summit that\r\nMeghan Duke had described<\/a>.\r\nSchruijer said it came about with the Community Business and Industry partnership\r\nwith the Chamber of Commerce.\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\nAnother existing industry expansion opportunity, and\r\nan alternative fuel company, are both “coming along nicely”.\r\nNetworking with state project managers, including GA Dept. of Econ. Dev.,\r\nGeorgia Power, Georgia EMC, and the railroads continues to get\r\nRequests for Information (RFIs) to stay in the game,\r\nincluding several RFIs recently received due to a presentation in Atlanta.\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\nVLCIA worked with international companies connecting them with existing industries\r\nfor export opportunities.\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\nWe are in competition for a logistics distribution facility for produce;\r\nlooking at Westside Business Park.\r\nShe added that acreage is in the report the board had.\r\nCol. Ricketts had nothing to add.\r\n<\/p>\r\n
