editorial<\/a> on what he saw, heard, and was asked at that meeting.\nHe&#8217;d prefer SPLOST being spent first on sidewalks\nthan on moving the library where people would have\nto go farther to get to it.\nAlso, like many of us, he&#8217;s tired of a few people controlling\nthe purse-strings without input from the rest of us.\nHe gave an example:\n<\/p>\n\n<!--more-->\n<blockquote>\n<p>\nMr. Patrick here at the library said before when I talked about renovating the building;\nhe had more information, he talked about the slab the library is built on;\nhe talked about the roof; he talked about the leaks in it.\nWell, I don&#8217;t know about that.\nOften I may speak about something I don&#8217;t know about.\nOnce I become informed about it, maybe I can change my decision.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=wrfJsAdlmNM&amp;feature=plcp\">\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none;\" class=\"at-xid-6a0120a58214e4970b017c33e719d7970b\" src=\"\/blog\/images\/6a0120a58214e4970b017c33e719d7970b-pi.jpg\"    \/><\/a>\nBut right now I don&#8217;t have enough information\nto make me vote for SPLOST\nunless somebody put some\nguarantees up\nthat the people who are the most deserving and that most need that money\nin their community\non the low-economic side of this town, who have been crying out for years,\nfor decades, really, to get something done,\nyou know, it&#8217;s just that simple.\n<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\nGeorge also wondered why the VDT,\nwhose managing editor Kay Harris also chairs the library board meetings,\npublished nothing about the three citizens\nwho spoke at the Valdosta City Council meeting the other night.\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2012\/08\/ga-sec-state-hears-complaints-from-voters-brooks-2012-08-09.html\">\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none;\" class=\"at-xid-6a0120a58214e4970b017ee58aba22970d\" src=\"\/blog\/images\/6a0120a58214e4970b017ee58aba22970d-pi.jpg\"    \/><\/a>\nAnd what about the elections irregularities in Brooks County that\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2012\/08\/ga-sec-state-hears-complaints-from-voters-brooks-2012-08-09.html\">\nbrought the Georgia Secretary of State to Quitman<\/a>?\nWhy was nothing published about that in the VDT?\n<\/p>\n<blockquote>\nSomebody got to tell the truth!\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\nAmen, Brother Rhynes!\n<\/p>\n<p>\nHere&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/playlist?list=PLshUv86fYkiGQQCndhLQ5pqWgL3qohMQK\">\na playlist of the library board meeting, followed by that editorial:<\/a>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/videoseries?list=PLshUv86fYkiGQQCndhLQ5pqWgL3qohMQK&amp;hl=en_US\" width=\"560\" frameborder=\"0\" height=\"315\"><\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center; font-size:80%;\">\nMonthly Meeting, South Georgia Library Board (SGLB)\n<br>\nValdosta, Lowndes County, Georgia, 20 November 2012.\n<br>\nVideos by George Boston Rhynes for bostongbr on YouTube (K.V.C.I.).\n<\/p>\n<p>\nSince\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2012\/10\/south-georgia-library-board-sglb-2012-09-18.html\">\nSeptember&#8217;s meeting<\/a>,\nI&#8217;ve discovered that\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/govt\/sgrl\/agendas\/\">\nlibrary staff submit written reports to the board<\/a> before the meeting,\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2012\/10\/library-open-records-request-2012-10-26.html\">\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none;\" class=\"at-xid-6a0120a58214e4970b017ee58aba27970d\" src=\"\/blog\/images\/6a0120a58214e4970b017ee58aba27970d-pi.jpg\"    \/><\/a>\nso this time I&#8217;m not going to attempt to summarize what library staff.\nI look forward to the Board posting those reports, agendas, and minutes ongoing\non their website so everyone can see them.\nOr if they don&#8217;t want to do it, send them to LAKE, and we&#8217;ll put them\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/govt\/sgrl\/agendas\/\">\nin the same place on the LAKE website as the past ones we collected<\/a>\nas responses to\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2012\/10\/library-open-records-request-2012-10-26.html\">\nan open records request.<\/a>\nWhile we appreciate library staff&#8217;s very thorough response to that request\n(referred to\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=t1OZJ2uWMfA&amp;feature=plcp&amp;t=9m1s\">\nby Patrick Spurlock in this recent meeting<\/a>),\nit really shouldn&#8217;t be necessary for the public to have to file requests\nto get information that is already readily available internally.\nAnd given that each of those reports is probably in PDF before it&#8217;s printed,\nsending the PDF would be even easier than having LAKE scan paper documents.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nSee\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2012\/11\/splost-vii-sglb-2012-11-20.html\">\nother post<\/a>\nfor an interesting discussion of SPLOST.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n<a title=\"Southside Library Boosters donations? --Ray Devery @SGLB 2012-11-20\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/98706376@N00\/8212094184\/\">\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none;\" class=\"at-xid-6a0120a58214e4970b017ee58aba2e970d\" src=\"\/blog\/images\/6a0120a58214e4970b017ee58aba2e970d-pi.jpg\"  alt=\"Southside Library Boosters donations? --Ray Devery @SGLB 2012-11-20\"  \/><\/a>\nAnother board member (Ray Devery?) wanted to know\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=wrfJsAdlmNM&amp;feature=plcp\">\nwhether the Southside Library Boosters had donated anything to the library.<\/a>\nNo, nobody knew.\nThe board member indicated that group had already lost its 501(c)(3) status.\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/govt\/sgrl\/agendas\/2012-07-17--sgrl-agenda\/SCAN0304.html\">\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none;\" class=\"at-xid-6a0120a58214e4970b017ee58aba38970d\" src=\"\/blog\/images\/6a0120a58214e4970b017ee58aba38970d-pi.jpg\"    \/><\/a>\n(That loss is documented in\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/govt\/sgrl\/agendas\/2012-07-17--sgrl-agenda\/SCAN0304.html\">\na letter from Patrick Spurlock to the Board 11 July 2012<\/a>.)\nStaff said they would talk to &#8220;our county attorney&#8221;
