\r\n\r\n<\/a>\r\n11AM this morning the County will plant three hardwood trees\r\nwhere the Annex was at the historic Lowndes County Courthouse.\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\nAt the\r\n\r\n9 April 2013 Regular Session<\/a>,\r\n\r\nThe Chairman announced that at 11AM on Earth Day, Monday 22 April 2013<\/a>,\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\nover at the historical Courthouse square,\r\nLowndes County Board of Commissioners and Lowndes County Public Works Department\r\nwill plant three trees that are native to south Georgia\r\nin celebrating a three-day free-to-the-public electronic recycling event.\r\nThe public is welcome.\r\nAnd I’d like to also recognize at this time special thanks to Advanced Disposal\r\nand Yancey Caterpillar for helping with the funding of this event.\r\n

\r\nWhat we’re doing is at the request of the Committee for the Preservation\r\nof the Courthouse.\r\nThe scene around the Courthouse as you see it now\r\nthe Annex has come off.\r\nThere is sod down at this point.\r\nWe’re going to add three more trees on that, which would be the north side\r\nof the Courthouse.\r\nIt would be three different species of hardwood trees.\r\nAnd when that is completed, we should have a sample of each hardwood\r\ntree that is representative of south Georgia around the perimeter of the\r\nCourthouse.\r\n

\r\nSo it’s going to be really nice, and it will still allow us to \r\nbe able to use that green space and all right there for some events and such as that,\r\nfor Farm Days and what have you.\r\nSo if you do have it, put it on your calendar, take the opportunity to come\r\nout and enjoy the morning with us as we plant those three trees.\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n

\r\nWho is the Committee for the Preservation of the Courthouse?\r\n\r\n<\/a>\r\nOn\r\n\r\n24 April 2012<\/a> the Commission appointed [mumble] to that Committee.\r\nAccording to the minutes<\/a> it was “Mr. Mike Dover”,\r\npresumably\r\n\r\nJ. Michael (Mike) Dover, Esq.<\/a>\r\nof the Langdale Company, although curiously his writeup there\r\ndoesn’t mention the Courthouse Preservation Committee,\r\nwhile it does mention numerous other committees and boards he’s on.\r\nHere’s his law firm writeup, for\r\n\r\nDover Miller Stone & Karras, P.C.<\/a>.\r\nWhy isn’t this Committee publicised by the County?\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\nWhy does the Lowndes County government throw away good PR like this?\r\nCounty Clerk Paige Dukes did get on WALB\r\n\r\n14 December 2012<\/a>\r\nabout the Annex demolition,\r\n\r\n<\/a>\r\nand a\r\n\r\nMichael McKinley posted a video of the demolition in progress<\/a>,\r\nbut I don’t find anything in the news about this Earth Day tree planting\r\nevent.\r\n<\/p>\r\n
