\r\nEven closer than\r\nTampa Bay<\/a>\r\nor\r\nFort Myers<\/a>,\r\nTallahassee has sinkhole problems in our same Floridan Aquifer\r\njust across the state line.\r\nWill the Lowndes County Commission do anything about our sinkhole\r\nproblems before people start losing their insurance and get sucked\r\ninto holes in the ground?\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\nImagine living in a home you can’t insure, no one wants to buy and\r\nit may not be safe.\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\nA Tallahassee woman is currently facing that problem.\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\nAt first glance, her home in Tallahassee’s Mission Manor\r\nneighborhood on the city’s northwest side doesn’t look much\r\ndifferent from any of the other homes in the neighborhood.\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\nThen about two years ago, homeowner Vickie Gordon found a problem.\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\n“I started noticing that the doors were getting stuck in the\r\nbathroom, couldn’t open them,” said Gordon.\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\nThen the issues became more noticeable.\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\nCracks started showing up all over the house.\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\nAfter Gordon contacted her insurance company, investigators found\r\nsinkhole activity at her home.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n

\r\nI wish this part was a joke:\r\n<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n

\r\nExperts said the problem could be fixed by injecting grout through 18 different pipes.\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n

\r\nFix massive underground cavities caused by overpumping water\r\nsimply by injecting grout under one house?\r\nSomebody will make a profit on that, but it won’t fix the problem.\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\n

\r\n\r\n<\/a>\r\n“They told me it wasn’t a life or death situation, but however as\r\nyou stated, the incident that happened down in central Florida, I\r\ndon’t know what could happen,” said Gordon.\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\nGordon tells us she’s contacted both the city and county hoping to\r\nbe bought out from her home.\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\nBut to this point, it hasn’t worked.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n

\r\nMaybe our local governments can be more proactive\r\nabout\r\nsinkholes in Lowndes County<\/a>\r\nbefore bad things start happening to people here.\r\n<\/p>\r\n
