\r\n\"Vogtle<\/a>\r\n\r\nDoes a\r\nNuclear Operations Unusual Event (NOUE) give you a warm and fuzzy feeling?\r\nWhen it’s a fire at a nuke on the Savannah River?\r\nThey didn’t shut Unit 1 down for that,\r\nbut Unit 2 has been down for almost a month.\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\n

\r\nNOTIFICATION OF UNUSUAL EVENT BASED ON A FIRE IN THE PROTECTED AREA\r\nLASTING GREATER THAN 15 MINUTES\r\n<\/H3>\r\n

\r\n“Vogtle Unit 1 has declared an NOUE based on a fire within the\r\nprotected area boundary not extinguished within 15 minutes of\r\ndetection.\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\n“At 0632 [EDT] Unit 1 received a fire alarm in the Unit 1 control\r\nbuilding. A systems operator was dispatched to investigate and\r\nreported back that a small flame was visible inside 1ND3I1, computer\r\ninverter. Fire brigade was dispatched in accordance with fire\r\nresponse procedures. No other systems or parameters affected.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n

\r\n

\r\n“At 0651 [EDT] fire brigade captain reported that the fire had been\r\nextinguished.”\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\nThe licensee has notified the NRC Resident Inspector as well as the\r\nstate and local authorities.\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\nNotified DHS, FEMA, DHS NICC and NuclearSSA.\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\n* * * UPDATE FROM MICHAEL PARKER TO DONG PARK AT 0811 EDT ON 3\/31\/13\r\n* * *\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\nThe licensee terminated the NOUE at 0745 EDT based on the fire being\r\nextinguished.\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\nThe licensee has notified the NRC Resident Inspector.\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\nR2DO (McCoy), NRR EO (Chernoff), and IRD (Harris) notified. Notified\r\nDHS, FEMA, DHS NICC and NuclearSSA (email).\r\n<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n

\r\nAnd remember,\r\nHatch 1<\/a> near Baxley (\r\n100 miles from here<\/a>)\r\nmay still have substandard fire protection,\r\nin addition to its\r\n\r\nongoing radioactive tritium leaks into our groundwater<\/a>.\r\n<\/p>\r\n
