\nWhen Wiregrass Power chose the site for their Biomass plant, they put\nit near one of Valdosta’s most affluent black communities. There are\nat least six black churches:\u00a0 New Life Ministries, Morning Star,\nEvangel Temple, Southside Church of Christ, Church of Prophecy, Church\nat Pine Hill. Two predominantly black elementary schools are in the\narea: Southeast and Moulton Branch. A large senior citizen assisted\nliving community, Sands Horizon, is located in the affected area and\nserves over 60 families.\u00a0Scott Park, where the Sands Horizon residents\nenjoy outings and the local children enjoy baseball games, is located\nnearby. Huge apartment complexes with several buildings, Park Chase\nand Brittany Woods, whose residents are primarily people of color, are\nlocated near the proposed site.\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\nThere is no doubt that the people closest to Wiregrass Power’s\nproposed Biomass plant are black people.\n\nWhat is most horrifying about the Wiregrass Power Biomass plant is the\ndanger it presents to children and the elderly.\u00a0The American Lung\nAssociation condemns these plants as particularly dangerous to\nchildren and elderly. For those families with loved ones at Sands\nHorizon, Moulton Branch and Southeast, I strongly recommend you\u00a0hold\nyour public officials accountable for endangering their health.\n
