{"id":261,"date":"2012-12-14T10:15:49","date_gmt":"2012-12-14T15:15:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/2012\/12\/augusta-high-tech-job-growth-second-in-the-country.html"},"modified":"2012-12-14T10:15:49","modified_gmt":"2012-12-14T15:15:49","slug":"augusta-high-tech-job-growth-second-in-the-country","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/2012\/12\/augusta-high-tech-job-growth-second-in-the-country.html","title":{"rendered":"Augusta high tech job growth: second in the country"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\nWhat is Augusta doing that attracts so many high tech jobs?\n<\/p>\n<p>\nOrlando Montoya wrote for GPB News 7 December 2012,\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.gpb.org\/news\/2012\/12\/07\/augusta-high-tech-ranks-nationally\">\nAugusta High Tech Ranks Nationally<\/a>,\n<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.gpb.org\/news\/2012\/12\/07\/augusta-high-tech-ranks-nationally\">\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none;\" class=\"at-xid-6a0120a58214e4970b017c349b392f970b\" src=\"\/blog\/images\/6a0120a58214e4970b017c349b392f970b-pi.jpg\"    \/><\/a>\n<p>\nA national group working to promote entrepreneurship says Augusta\nhas the second highest growth rate of high tech jobs in the past\nfive years.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nOnly Boise, Idaho grew tech jobs faster.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nSan Francisco based Engine Advocacy says between 2006 and 2011,\nAugusta increased its technology sector jobs by 81%.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nCity officials credit the area&#8217;s low cost of living.\n<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\nIf that was the only key,\nLowndes County and Valdosta MSA would lead the country&#8230;.\nWhat else?\n<\/p>\n\n<!--more-->\n<blockquote>\n<p>\nSue Parr of the Augusta Regional Chamber of Commerce says the region\nalso has several medical facilities and military installations that\nproduce jobs requiring advanced degrees.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n&#8220;We have a large number of hospitals and health care providers here\nin our community that are transitioning and needing to increase\ntheir capacities for technology,&#8221; Parr says.\n<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\nOnce again, not a lot different from Lowndes County.\n<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\nAugusta-Richmond County recently started a &#8220;collaboration center&#8221; to\npromote high tech job growth.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nParr credits medical and military jobs plus growth a call center for\nNew Jersey based ADP.\n<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\nSo far as I know we don&#8217;t have a collaboration center, although we do\nhave a couple of companies doing telephone call-related work.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nSo what is the difference?\nSome thoughts on that in later posts.\nWhat do you think?\n<\/p>\n<p>\n-jsq\n<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"What is Augusta doing that attracts so many high tech jobs?
