\r\nThe LAKE blog, along with hundreds of thousands of other websites,\r\n\r\ngot infested with malware\r\nthrough vulnerabilities in WordPress, the very popular hosting software we use.\r\n<\/p>
\r\n\r\n \r\nHere’s what WordPress has to say about that:\r\n\r\n\r\n<\/p> \r\n\r\nhttps:\/\/almcorp.com\/news\/wordpress-7-0-3-security-release-patches-12-vulnerabilities-login-xss-2026\/<\/a>\r\n<\/p> \r\nIf that post doesn’t clarify much for you, you’re not alone.\r\n<\/p> \r\nWe don’t know how the malware got in.\r\nWe do know it cloned itself in many thousands of files all across the virtual machine that website lived on.\r\n<\/p> \r\nGretchen has made a completely new website and upgraded it to the latest CentOS operating system version,\r\nsomething she had been planning to do for some time.\r\nWe are taking other measures, as well.\r\n<\/p> \r\nIncluding restoring most of the website from off-site backups.\r\nThat’s going to take a while; probably some days more to be complete.\r\nWe’re doing it newest posts first, so you probably won’t notice\r\nmuch missing unless you’re digging around in our archives.\r\n<\/p> \r\nThe LAKE facebook and YouTube sites were not affected.\r\n<\/p> \r\nAnd the LAKE blog is operational again, and remember everything soon.\r\n<\/p> \r\n -jsq\r\n<\/p>\r\n Investigative reporting costs money, for open records requests, copying, web hosting, gasoline, and cameras, and with sufficient funds we can pay students to do further research.
