\r\nThe Regular Session of June 23, 2026, took 39 minutes, largely because a special presentation<\/a>, an unscheduled report on the 911 center<\/a>,\r\nand five Citizens Wishing to Be Heard.\r\n

\r\nOne of the citizens asked a question about the Alcoholic Beverages Ordinance\r\nthat he could have read the answer to for himself\r\nif the county had published the draft ordinance before the meeting.\r\n

\r\nWhy does the county continue to make more work for itself and everybody else\r\nby not publishing its own board packets?\r\n

\r\nUnsurprisingly, the Lowndes County Commissioners unanimously approved every voting item,\r\nincluding\r\n\r\nreappointing Raymond Conner<\/a> to the Lowndes County Division of Family and Children Services (LCDFCS).\r\nCommissioner Demarcus Marshall was absent.\r\n

\r\nThree citizens spoke about Datacenters: George Fisher<\/a> about sinkholes,\r\nMichael Noll<\/a> about a datacenter ordinance,\r\nand\r\nTetiana Babcock<\/a>, who wanted to know where the county stands in developing a datacenter ordinance.\r\nYou may recall that\r\nin March she alleged encroachment on her property<\/a> from the datacenter site,\r\nwhich would be a violation of one of the conditions of the July 2025 rezoning of that potential datacenter site.\r\n

\r\nThis time she asked for a timeline of development of a datacenter ordinance\r\nand robust citizen involvement.\r\nWhich would be refreshing, compared to what we just saw as the usual\r\nLowndes County ordinance public engagement:\r\nnone.\r\nThey just slapped the alcoholic beverage ordinance update on the agenda and\r\nvoted on it, without any public hearing and without even publishing the draft beforehand.\r\n

\r\nKelly Saxon spoke about Craig Center warming\/cooling center funding<\/a>.\r\n

\r\nMr. Patel wanted to know how the Alcoholic Beverage Ordinances changes would affect established businesses<\/a>.\r\n

\r\nIf the county had simply published that ordinance before voting on it,\r\nthey wouldn’t get so many questions, and we wouldn’t see at least one\r\nCommissioner trying to explain it on facebook.\r\n

\r\nAs you may know, LAKE published that ordinance<\/a> as soon as we got it by\r\nopen records request.\r\n
