\n\n<\/a>\nA growing organization of concerned citizens are opposing the building\nof a biomass energy plant in Lowndes County.\n

\nWiregrass Activists for Clean Energy hope to promote clean and sustainable\nenergies while also educating the public on how a biomass plant could\nbe detrimental to community health.\n

\n\n<\/a>\nThe goal of the organization and the opposition to the plant is not to\ninhibit economic development but to promote a conversation on sustainable\nenergy, Dr. Michael Noll, WACE president, said.\n

\nThe new organization is not the only one in the community speaking out\nagainst the biomass plant.\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n

\n\n<\/a>\nStudents Against Violating the Environment,\nS.A.V.E. raised their voices in support of the opposition on Oct. 25\nby hosting a biomass forum which featured Dr. William Sammons, a\nMassachusetts pediatrician, who has taken up the fight in the form of\nmedical and environmental information, to oppose biomass plants across\nthe country.\n

\n\n<\/a>\nAlso, the Valdosta-Lowndes County branch of the NAACP has stated the\nlocation of the plant is a form of environmental racism.\n

\n\n<\/a>\nWhile WACE opposes the biomass plant, the goal of the organization is\nto be proactive in finding other ways to provide energy production,\nefficiency and conservation within the community.\n<\/blockquote>\nYes, I’m a member of WACE.<\/strike>\n

\nWhen the VDT refers to\n“In emails between the various groups”, you’ve already\nseen them right here on this blog,\nstarting with this one.<\/a>\nThe Lowndes Area Knowledge Exchange (LAKE) has been following this issue\nsince before the June 2009 county rezoning of the plant site.\n
