\r\nTwo weeks ago at their Regular Session, the Lowndes County Commissioners\r\ndiscussed for nine minutes\r\n\r\n5.c. REZ-2026-03 Villanueva Property, 6201 Union Rd, 6ac, E-A to C-G.<\/a>,\r\nmostly about fence colors.\r\nThey ended up approving the rezoning with the staff-recommended conditions,\r\nexcept not the one about fence color.\r\n

\r\nThey also talked for six and a half minutes about the agenda item they added,\r\n\r\n6.b. Temporary Burn Ordinance<\/a>.\r\n

\r\nGretchen Quarterman noted, “There have been over 100 grass\r\nfires so far this year. Lowndes County (and surrounding counties) is\r\nin extreme drought. This temporary ordinance is made in conjunction\r\nwith Georgia Forestry to protect property, people, resources, etc.\r\nThis burn ban includes “recreational” fired and fires inside of a\r\nburn barrel. It does not ban outdoor grilling of food. (or so I\r\nthought I heard).”\r\n<\/p>\r\n

She added, “The text of the \r\ncounty FB post<\/a> is as follows:”\r\n

\r\n

\r\n“Due to prolonged dry weather and worsening drought conditions,\r\noutdoor burning of yard debris is now restricted in the\r\nunincorporated areas of Lowndes County. To reduce wildfire risks and\r\nprotect public safety, property, and natural resources, all open\r\nburning of yard debris, including leaves, limbs, grass, and other\r\nvegetative matter, is prohibited within the unincorporated area of\r\nLowndes County until drought conditions improve.”\r\n<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n

\r\nThey passed all the agenda items unanimously.\r\n
