\nMoving forward with a project like yours\n

  1. \nafter it has been established that biomass is dirtier than coal (see the\ndata we shared from the Georgia EPD)\n
  2. \nafter it has been established by medical associations throughout the\ncountry that the hundreds of tons of pollutants your proposed plant\nwould spewout (as identified in your own application) would result in\nsignificant health issues (increase and\/or worsening of COPD, asthma,\ncancer, heart disease)\n<\/ol>\nis nothing short of irresponsible and speaks of the lack of respect\nyou have for the health of our community.\n

    \nThe fact remains that you have not been able to provide quantitative\ndata or scientific studies that prove that biomass is “clean” or\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n

    \n“safe”. Repeatedly using the term “green” in your narrative does not\nmake it so either and is by now misleading at best. Moreover, referring\nto “substantial documentation” on the issue of health risks associated\nwith your project, without actually being able to share them with this\ngroup, speaks volumes on its own.\n

    \nBy the way, statements made by entities like the EPA and the USDA (in\nreference to the question of “carbon neutrality”) cannot be used to\nback up your claim that biomass is safe. Likewise, your toxicologist\n(who is neither a medical professional, nor does seem to understand the\ndangers of dioxin) cannot be taken seriously in his “assurances” that\nbiomass is safe … when the ALA, the ACS, and the AHA, to name but a\nfew, say otherwise, backed up by numerous studies.\n

    \nI guess I should not be surprised that an individual who likes to use\nWikipedia for doing research (a source my students are not allowed to\nuse) would fall into the occasional mis-informational trap. Most of us\nhave done this at some point. Eventually, though, it is time to wake up\nand to do some serious research … which for reasons, as of yet\nunknown to me, you refuse to do.\n

    \nBe assured that WACE (and the multitude of members in the community who\nhave joined us \/ a number that is growing steadily) will continue their\nwork to educate our community about your misguided project, and to\nprovide alternatives for a truly sustainable future for Valdosta and\nLowndes County. Our forum on January 13 will be another step in that\ndirection. All members of the Industrial Authority and the community at\nlarge are cordially invited to attend this forum.\n

    \nUntil then, I encourage you to share your documentation proving that\nbiomass is “clean” and “safe”, or your environmental impact analysis\nyou referred to yesterday. In this day and age, it is fairly simple to\ndo so via email attachments (pdf, doc, etc.) or you can simply post\nthem to your website … unless, of course, you do not have such\ndocuments, which brings us back to the beginning of this email …\n
