\n\n<\/a>\nIn these two videos, Col. Ricketts responds to materials sent to VLCIA\nby WACE<\/a>.\nHe dismisses certain material as being\n\nfrom Massachusetts<\/a>\nor being from\n\n“folks come into the community.”<\/a>\nThat’s rather rich, since as near as I can tell,\nall<\/em> of VLCIA’s “expert” panelists at their\n\n6 Dec 2010 event<\/a>\nwere from not from around here.\nSome were from states a thousand miles from here.\nMaybe somebody can transcribe\n\nBrad Lofton’s enumeration of those “experts” from the board meeting,<\/a>\nsince as near as I can tell VLCIA has provided no written list of them.\nAnd of course Sterling Planet is located in Atlanta, not Lowndes County.\n

\nIn the first video, Col. Ricketts says he’s responding to WACE materials:\n\n\n

\nI think I’ve seen more materials than those on those points, Col. Ricketts,\nand if you claim the letter from Mass. doesn’t apply here, how about examining\nthe points it raises in relation to biomass plants in Georgia or in nearby states?\n

\n\n<\/a>\nIn the second video, Col. Ricketts addresses biomass being dirtier than coal\nby addressing only one source:\n\nthe Manomet study.<\/a>\n

\n<\/param><\/param><\/param><\/object>\n

\nYou can see Col. Ricketts handing material to the VDT reporter (good)\nbut not to anyone else in the audience (they went to the trouble to come;\ncan the VLCIA not afford a dozen handouts?).\n

\nRegarding carbon debt, Col. Ricketts reads this:\n

\n“each state or situation or even biomass facility will need to do its own study”\n<\/blockquote>\nAnd there is no such local study; see following post.\n

\nHe refers to “folks come into the community”\nand never mentions\n\nDr. William Sammons<\/a> by name,\nnor did Col. Ricketts address any of Dr. Sammons’ other evidence.\n

\nCol. Ricketts sums up the carbon debt situation:\n

\n“because trees can grow back, this debt can be paid off”\n<\/blockquote>\nMaybe in a hundred years,\n\naccording to a different study that he doesn’t cite, for yet another region.<\/a>\nWouldn’t we like to know how long, before we start pumping CO2<\/sub> into\nthe air here in Lowndes County, making other diseases worse,\n\nas Dr. Sammons has established will happen?<\/a>\n

\nXenophobia is not science.\nClaiming your non-local authorities are better than somebody else’s\nand hoping nobody will notice is not even good PR.\nClaiming authority and refusing to provide evidence\nabout specific concerns when your opponents do provide such evidence\nmeans you lose the argument.\n
