\nDuring a special meeting Monday, county commissioners unanimously\napproved a resolution to include two additional voting districts within\nLowndes County.\n

\nThe two proposed voting districts would allow for greater representation\nat County Commission meetings by allowing for an expansion of the current\navailable voting representatives from three to five, while keeping a\nnon-voting commission chairman.\n<\/blockquote>\nLast year, this expansion\n\nfailed in the legislature on a technicality.<\/a>\nIf the Commission and staff don’t make the same mistake,\nit seems likely the legislature will approve these new districts.\n

\nBut the district map\n\nthe VDT published (see above)<\/a>\nis not the same\n\n\n\n<\/a>\nas the district map\n\non the County Commission’s own web pages,<\/a>\nwhich is dated “March 23, 2009”.\nNeither are the same as the map the VDT published\nFebruary 26, 2009<\/a>.\n

\nWhich map is correct?\nThe voters might like to know who they can vote for in these new districts.\nAre people on Old Pine Road or in Dasher in the District 4 (east)\nor District 5 (west)?\nWhat about Orr Road and Lake Park?\n

\nSo I called the\n\nLowndes County Board of Elections<\/a> and asked Supervisor of Elections Deb Cox\nwhich map was correct.\nShe answered,\n

\n“I don’t have a clue!\nThey technically don’t have to tell us until they’re doing the redistricting.\nWe’re actually a state entity, not a county entity.”\n<\/blockquote>\nShe added,\n
\n“Some other organizations do let us know, such as Valdosta,\nHahira, and the two school boards, and that’s welcome.”\n<\/blockquote>\nI wondered how she would find out, and she said,\n
\n“I’ll ask the county for a current map, or maybe RDC.”\n<\/blockquote>\n

\nMaybe the Lowndes County Commission could do with some more\ntransparency<\/a>.\n
