{"id":2520,"date":"2011-01-09T15:34:36","date_gmt":"2011-01-09T20:34:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/2011\/01\/superdistrictmaps.html"},"modified":"2011-01-09T15:34:36","modified_gmt":"2011-01-09T20:34:36","slug":"superdistrictmaps","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/2011\/01\/superdistrictmaps.html","title":{"rendered":"Superdistricts on Lowndes County web pages"},"content":{"rendered":"<a href=\"http:\/\/www.lowndescounty.com\/content\/welcome\/m29\/misc\/superdistricts11x17.pdf\">\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none;\"   src=\"http:\/\/farm6.static.flickr.com\/5007\/5340385498_ccc71461e1.jpg\"><\/a>\n<b>Update:<\/b> the agenda for the 3 Jan 2011 special session\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.lowndescounty.com\/files\/agenda\/Agenda 1-03-11 Special Called Meeting.pdf\">is posted on the county webpages.<\/a>\n<br>\nLowndes County staff have an update about\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2011\/01\/who-just-voted-for-the-new-districts-for-lowndes-county.html\">\nthe recent vote<\/a>\nfor <a href=\"\/blog\/2011\/01\/which-new-districts-did-the-county-commission-just-vote-for.html\">adding two new superdistricts:<\/a>\n<blockquote>\nCOMMISSION EXPANSION\n<p>\nOn Monday, January 3, 2011, the Lowndes County Board of Commissioners\nheld a special called meeting during which the adoption of a resolution\nexpressing the county&#8217;s desire to move forward with the expansion of\nthe Lowndes County Board of Commissioners, as previously directed by\nthe voters of Lowndes County, was unanimously approved.\n<\/blockquote>\nThis is on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lowndescounty.com\/\">the county&#8217;s front page,<\/a>\nwith links to\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.lowndescounty.com\/content\/welcome\/m29\/misc\/commission expansion resolution 1 2011.pdf\">the resolution that was approved<\/a>,\n<li>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.lowndescounty.com\/content\/welcome\/m29\/misc\/superdistricts11x17.pdf\">a county-wide map of the new districts<\/a>,\nwhich seems to answer\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2011\/01\/which-new-districts-did-the-county-commission-just-vote-for.html\">\nmy question about which map was correct: the one in the VDT,<\/a>\nor\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/98706376@N00\/5339801101\/in\/set-72157625660308833\/\">\nthe one then on the county&#8217;s own website.<\/a>\nLooks like the VDT map was correct, and the one now on the county&#8217;s website matches it.\n<li>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.lowndescounty.com\/content\/welcome\/m29\/misc\/superdistricts11x17.pdf\">\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none;\"   src=\"http:\/\/farm6.static.flickr.com\/5167\/5339774149_e9d31532bb_m.jpg\"><\/a>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.lowndescounty.com\/content\/welcome\/m29\/misc\/superdistricts11x17.pdf\">a map of the parts of the superdistricts within Valdosta.<\/a>\n<\/ul>\nI suppose this explains why I didn&#8217;t hear back about this same information\nin response to my open records request: they put it on the county web pages.\nThat&#8217;s fine with me.\n<p>\nWhat is not included\n\n<!--more-->\nis the demographic information that is supposed to demonstrate\nthat the east district is a majority-minority district.\nI will ask for that tomorrow morning at the work session,\nor file another open records request if necessary.\n<p>\nMeanwhile, here&#8217;s the rest of the relevant text from the county&#8217;s front page:\n<blockquote>\nSince, the resolution has been forwarded to the county attorney for the drafting of a proposed bill amending the Local Act to provide for expansion of the Commission.  Once drafted the bill must be sent to the Office of Legislative Counsel in Atlanta and with the consent of a member of Lowndes County&#8217;s local legislative delegation, the Office of Legislative Counsel will prepare an official bill.\n<p>\nOnce the bill is prepared, a Notice of Intent to Introduce Local Legislation will be published in the Valdosta Daily Times in accordance with O.C.G.A. 28-1-14(a). After publication, a member of the local legislative delegation may introduce the bill.\n<p>\nPending no other obstacles during the current session of the General Assembly, the legislation will pass the House and Senate.\n<p>\nOnce signed by the Governor, a Section 5 submission must be presented to the Department of Justice.\n<p>\nFor more information regarding expansion of the Lowndes County Board of Commissioners, citizens may call 229-671-2400.
