Quarterman&#8221;\n<br>\nTo: Brad Lofton\n<br>\nCc: <a href=\"#cc\" name=\"topcc\">[see below]<\/a>\n<p>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/alan_cressler\/4900577597\/\">\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none;\"   src=\"http:\/\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4141\/4900577597_434f3b3a8f_m.jpg\"><\/a>\nResponding to\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2011\/01\/a-great-plan-brad-lofton.html\">\nBrad Lofton&#8217;s message,<\/a>\nactually\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2010\/12\/1521-suniva-solar-panels-in-dalton-georgia.html\">\nDalton, Georgia already has a 365kW solar array installed and in use.<\/a>\nThat&#8217;s larger than the 350 kW array VLCIA has &#8220;about to break ground&#8221;,\nand Dalton got theirs without having to take a biomass plant with it.\n<p>\nAs for wood-sourced biomass,\n<a href=\"http:\/\/books.google.com\/books?id=iEv4kbhm2jcC&#038;pg=PA65&#038;lpg=PA65&#038;dq=rayonier+jesup+%2Bmegawatts&#038;source=bl&#038;ots=IyUJlEfidN&#038;sig=unZhkKFCg7In-vPismvtPWES5ok&#038;hl=en&#038;ei=Rrw1Tc-kNcSt8AbmsYGRCQ&#038;sa=X&#038;oi=book_result&#038;ct=result&#038;resnum=1&#038;ved=0CBMQ6AEwAA#v=onepage&#038;q=rayonier jesup %2Bmegawatts&#038;f=false\">\nRayonier Jesup Mill produces around 78 MW,<\/a>\nwhich is more than the 40MW biomass plant VLCIA is thinking about starting.\nJesup also got high air and water pollution and high crime.\n<p>\nMeanwhile, Dublin is already hiring for 350 jobs for the MAGE SOLAR manufacturing\nplant, while VLCIA&#8217;s biomass plant would only bring 25 jobs.\n<p>\nOnce again you ignore suggestions for clean energy projects\nand reiterate the biomass plant and its bag-on-the-side solar plant\nas the whole of VLCIA&#8217;s plan.\n<p>\nFortunately, I have confidence that such experienced developers as\nthe VLCIA board can do better than that.\n<\/blockquote>\n\n<!--more-->\n<blockquote>\n<p>\nYou know, I would like to hear more about the 1,700 jobs you say\nVLCIA has created.\nWhere&#8217;s the project list with associated jobs?\nI&#8217;d love to link to it!\n<p>\nWhat about all the new projects that appear and disappear in VDT writeups?\nFor example,\nwhat happened to <a href=\"http:\/\/valdostadailytimes.com\/local\/x1414105953\/Projects-in-the-works\">Project EARTH<\/a>, mentioned last May in the VDT:\n<blockquote>\n&#8230;to construct a 700,000-square-foot vehicle manufacturing facility\nto build hybrid vehicles, which would create about 450 to 600 new jobs.\n<\/blockquote>\nI&#8217;d love to spend my blogging time writing about success stories from\nthe VLCIA, and I&#8217;d bet most of the community would love to be cheering\nyou on for such projects.\n<p>\nWhy, instead, is the VLCIA spending its political capital on a 25 job\nproposal that is provoking increasing opposition?\n<p>\n-jsq\n<br>\nJohn S.
