\nThis e-mail is in response to the questions you directed to the VLCIA Board\nof Directors during the “Citizens to be Heard” portion of the VLCIA Board\nMeeting on Tuesday, 18 January 2011.\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n

- \nAs you know, the Wiregrass Solar, LLC Project (solar photovoltaic\nfacility) is currently moving forward according to an aggressive\nconstruction timeline with a projected completion\/in service date of 18\nMarch 2011. The facility has been sited and designed to allow for rapid and\nsubstantial expansion to meet emerging demand from Georgia utilities for\nrenewable\/sustainable energy. Wiregrass Solar, LLC and Georgia Power\nCompany have executed a Power Purchase Agreement for the electricity\ngenerated by the facility. Wiregrass Solar, LLC and Wiregrass Power, LLC are\nidentified as “targeted” renewable\/sustainable energy production\nindustries\/technologies by the VLCIA and Georgia.\n
- \nCurrently, there are federal tax incentives available to encourage\nthe installation of solar panels on private residence and existing business\nrooftops to generate electricity for “on-site” use or sale to Georgia\nutilities. These programs are sanctioned\/promoted by the U.S. Department of\nEnergy, Georgia utilities and are codified in U.S. Federal tax\nlaws\/regulations. The VLCIA is not chartered to facilitate and fund the\ninstallation of solar panels on private residence and existing business\nrooftops or administer the application\/qualification for available federal\ntax incentives for private citizens.\n
- \nThe City of Valdosta and Coastal Plains EOA currently partner to\nidentify, qualify and deliver HUD Community Development Block Grant funds to\ncitizens who reside in designated Revitalization Areas for the\nweatherization of new construction or existing building rehabilitation. You\nshould contact Ms. Phyllis Kasson (229-671-3617) or Mr. Richard Joyner\n(229-259-3534) with the City of Valdosta for more complete information on\nthis program. You may also contact Coastal Plains EOA Weatherization at\n229-241-9161.
