Update 2025-02-11<\/strong>:\r\nLowndes County Considers Opting Out of House Bill 581 @ LCC Public Hearing 2025-02-10<\/a>.\r\n

\r\nCommissioner Joyce Evans will\r\n\r\nrotate back into the Vice Chair position<\/a>.\r\nOn January 28, 2025, the Lowndes County Commission\r\nalso\r\n\r\nreappointed to the Valdosta-Lowndes County Land Bank Authority<\/a>.\r\n

\r\nIn a break with tradition, the incumbent was not reappointed as a \r\n\r\nTax Assessor<\/a>.\r\nGretchen Quarterman, the incumbent (although technically not, since\r\nthe County Commission did not do reappointments before her term expired at the end of 2024)\r\ngot a nomination and two votes.\r\nJames Michael (Mike) Tanner also got a nommination and two votes.\r\nCommissioner Scottie Orenstein was not present for that item,\r\nsince he came in late.\r\nThat left Chairman Bill Slaughter to break the tie, and he voted for Tanner.\r\n

\r\nThe previous morning,\r\nCommissioner Demarcus Marshall said he wanted to ask questions of\r\nthe applicants for 6.a. Appointment to\r\nthe Board of Tax Assessors<\/a>. Chairman Bill Slaughter said they\r\nweren’t doing that in the Work Session because both applications\r\nwere not there, but they can do it in the Regular Session Tuesday.\r\n

\r\nMike Tanner did not attend the Regular Session.\r\nGretchen Quarterman was there as usual, videoing the meeting.\r\n

\r\nThe voted on the added agenda item,\r\n\r\n8.d. Publish the intent to opt out of HB 581<\/a>,\r\nto do that.\r\nThat item and all the others were approved unanimously, except as noted above.\r\n
