<\/a>\r\nBoil Water Advisory, South Lowndes County, Broken water main @ LCC 2024-08-22<\/a>\r\n<\/p>\r\n
\r\nOn behalf of Lowndes County Utilities, a contractor was performing\r\nmaintenance work on a 12-inch water main in the Whitewater Rd area\r\nand inadvertently caused a significant break in the line. This break\r\nhas caused service disruption to a large portion of South Lowndes\r\nCounty. Crews are actively working to isolate and repair the broken\r\nwater main. There is currently no estimate of how long the repairs\r\nwill take.\r\n<\/p>\r\n
\r\nAs a result of the break, Lowndes County Utilities is issuing a boil\r\nwater advisory for the affected areas. If you have not experienced a\r\nwater outage, the boil water advisory does not apply to you! The\r\nadvisory is being issued out of an abundance of caution —\r\nthere is the potential a health hazard may exist due to microbial\r\ncontamination in these areas without positive pressure. In order to\r\nprotect the public from a potential health hazard, customers that\r\nhave experienced water outages and\/or low water pressures are\r\nadvised to use only boiled tap water or bottled water for drinking,\r\ncooking, or preparing food. To properly boil tap water for use,\r\ncustomers should:\r\n<\/p>\r\n

- Heat water until bubbles come quickly from the bottom of the container;\r\n
- Continue heating the water for one minute once it begins to boil;\r\n
- Remove the water from the heat source and allow it to cool before use.\r\n<\/ul>\r\n
\r\nDuring a Boil Water Advisory, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC)\r\nrecommends that boiled tap water or bottled water be used for the\r\nfollowing:\r\n\r\n\r\n<\/p>\r\n

- Drinking\r\n
- Brushing teeth\r\n
- Washing food and preparing food and baby formula\r\n
- Making ice\r\n
- Drinking water for pets\r\n<\/ul>\r\n
\r\nOther activities such as cloth washing, dish washing and other uses\r\ncan be done without boiling tap water, if done properly. The\r\ncomplete CDC guidance can be found at this website:\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\nThe advisory is in effect until Lowndes County Utilities has done\r\nthe appropriate testing to be confident that there is no longer a\r\npublic health concern. A follow-up notification will be issued when\r\nthe Advisory is lifted. Once the Advisory is lifted, you should\r\nflush all faucets for a minimum of two minutes before using for\r\ndrinking or food preparation.\r\n<\/p>\r\n
