\r\nCommissioner Mark Wisenbaker wondered why there was a $2 million difference\r\nbetween the two bids for\r\n\r\n7.a. PI# 0016278 Kinderlou Clyattville Road Paving – Drainage Improvements<\/a>.\r\nEngineering Services Director Chad McLeod says it’s because Reames owns\r\nproperty near the site, which greatly reduces their cost to move materials there.\r\n

\r\nAbout 24 minutes of the 34-minute Work Session yesterday morning\r\nwas a presentation not on the agenda.\r\nMary Beth Brownlee, Executive Director of One Valdosta-Lowndes (OVL),\r\ntold the Lowndes County Commission about a proposed Regional College and Career Academy.\r\n\r\n\r\n

\r\nThis presentation was mentioned two weeks ago in the County Manager’s Report at the Regular Session,\r\nbut so far as I know there was no other announcement.\r\n

\r\nI’ve stuck in a few screenshots from the LAKE video,\r\nbut even after I enhanced the contrast, they are rather washed out.\r\nLAKE has asked for the presentation slides, which do not seem to be on the OVL website.\r\n

\r\nHaving dealt with local high school and college students,\r\nI can attest that there is a need for some improvement,\r\nstarting with writing and comprehension skills.\r\nHowever, I am puzzled why this cannot be done through the public\r\nschool and university systems.\r\n

\r\nThe Commissioners breezed through all the other items.\r\n

\r\nGretchen Quarterman noted, “In an unusual presentation, the County Manager gave a report on upcoming events. Usually she waits for the regular meeting.”\r\n

\r\nI’ve always wondered why she doesn’t do a one-page summary handout\r\nand stick it on the county’s website.\r\n

\r\nThey vote tonight at 5:30 PM.\r\n
