\nthe U.S. Forest Service (and the Georgia Forestry Commission)
\nlearned that fire is necessary for the health of southern
\npine forests:
\nwithout it, undergrowth takes over, and eventually oaks take over,
\nand there’s no more pine forest.
\nThat was after forty years or more of official
\nsuppression of forest fires.
