Update 2023-09-16<\/strong>: by WWALS,\r\nVideos: Quarterman Road rezoning unanimously denied @ LCC 2023-09-12<\/a>.\r\n

\r\nAfter five local residents spoke against and nobody for, the Lowndes County Commission\r\nunanimously denied the inappropriate\r\n2.5-acre rezoning REZ-2023-04 on Quarterman Road.\r\n

\r\nThen after Roy Copeland spoke for the R-21 rezoning REZ-2023-10 on Mt. Zion Church Road and nobody spoke against, the Commissioners unanimously approved that one.\r\n

\r\nThey unanimously approved almost everything else, including\r\nappointing\r\nDr. Anthony Johnson to the Lowndes County Board of Health<\/a>.\r\nThe Family Medicine Dr. Johnson; not the eye doctor, although\r\nwe only know that because LAKE filed an open records request for the board packet\r\nand published the results.\r\n

\r\nThe exception was\r\n\r\n7.b. Hamilton Green Acceptance of Water – Sewer Infrastructure<\/a>.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nCommissioner Clay Griner asked why the lift station would still be private\r\n(because it does not meet county specifications),\r\nand if it fails, will the county have to take it over (yes).\r\n

\r\nThen Griner moved to deny the acceptance, and Commissioner Demarcus Marshall seconded.\r\nThey voted for, and the other two against.\r\nChairman Bill Slaughter broke the tie by voting against denial.\r\n

\r\nThen Commissioner Mark Wisenbaker moved to accept, Commissioner Joyce Evans seconded,\r\nthey voted for, and the other two against.\r\nThe Chairman again broke the tie by voting for acceptance.\r\n

\r\nCounty Manager Paige Dukes\r\n\r\nrevealed that the county is working on plans\r\nfor a wastewater treatment plant<\/a> to replace the Land Application Site,\r\nbut she did not say where or near what creek or river.\r\n

\r\nEarly in the meeting,\r\nEMA Director Ashley Tye \r\n\r\nrecognized numerous volunteer groups supporting hurricane recovery<\/a>.\r\nAt the end,\r\nhe\r\n\r\nreported on recovery from Hurricane Idalia<\/a>.\r\n

\r\nThanks to the County Planner for changing his recommendation.\r\nFor the Planning Commission he wrote Approve with a condition,\r\nbut for the County Commission he gave no recommendation.\r\n
