But if they&#8217;re being used in making a license\ndecision, why doesn&#8217;t that make them public documents accessible by the\npublic? Oh, right &#8220;it&#8217;s very complex&#8221; but &#8220;it&#8217;s a yes or no question&#8221;\nand &#8220;I will assess&#8221;, he says. It&#8217;s good to be king!\n<\/p>\n<p>\nI wonder if the public had some assurance of\ntransparency maybe the NRC wouldn&#8217;t get\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nrc.gov\/reading-rm\/foia\/recent-requests\/2012\/foia-december.html\">\nso many FOIA requests?<\/a>\n<\/p>\n<p>\nRemember, this is the same NRC that gave\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2012\/11\/nuclear-reactors-near-here.html\">\n100-mile-from-here same-design-as-Fukushima\nPlant Hatch<\/a>\na\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2012\/12\/nrc-doesnt-publish-nuclear-licensing-documents.html\">\n20 year license extension,<\/a>\nand the same NRC\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2011\/04\/nuclear-reactor-vogtle-1-at-august-shut-down.html\">\nthat gave Plant Vogtle a clean bill of health\nat a public meeting two days before Unit 1 shut down,<\/a>\nand the same NRC that could stop the new nukes there\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2012\/12\/15-month-delay-for-new-plant-vogtle-nukes-state-inspector-at-psc.html\">\neven if the GA PSC won&#8217;t.<\/a>\n<\/p>\n<p>\nWhat if we deployed solar power instead, on budget and on time?\n<\/p>\n<p>\n-jsq\n<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"After Kendra Ulrich of Friends of the Earth asked about some licensee documents related to last week&#8217;s NRC hearing in faraway Maryland on restarting California&#8217;s San Onofre nuclear reactor, NRC&#8217;s David Beaulieu expanded on NRC&#8217;s refusal to divulge the documents.
