When the president of\nGeorgia Power is the chairman of the water commission and 52 percent of\nwater is being used for power generation, you\u2019ve got the fox in the\nhenhouse,\u201d said Pete Marte, chief executive officer of Hannah Solar.\n<\/blockquote>\nAccording to VDT commenter Solar All The Way:\n\n<!--more-->\n<blockquote>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.hannahsolar.com\/hannah-solar-personnel.htm\">\n<img style=\"float:right;border:none;\"\nwidth=\"90\" height=\"136\"\nsrc=\"http:\/\/www.hannahsolar.com\/marte-pete.jpg\"><\/a>\nThe CEO of Hannah Solar told us that in most other states solar industry\nhas fewer regulatory hurdles than in Georgia. He urged everyone who\nsupports solar to call their legislators and ask them to vote for HB\n146. He said that they could have easily built a solar plant 5 times as\nbig as the one Valdosta got. Other states are embracing solar&#8217;s clean,\ngreen, totally renewable industry and creating jobs, jobs, and more\njobs&#8212;like the solar panels made in Dublin, Georgia, and providing\nincomes for 350 employees, some of which are going to be shipped out of\nstate because Georgia limits the building of solar plants here. Georgia\nPower evidently has a monopoly and keeps politicians in thrall.\n<\/blockquote>\nCol. Ricketts said in a VCLIA board meeting that the plant just\nbeing installed can be expanded in two directions,\nmaking it about five times its current size.\nCEO Marte also mentioned (I believe to Mayor Fretti)\nthat there are variable mounts that follow the sun,\nand there are also mirror-and-boiler solar systems such as are\nbeing used in California that don&#8217;t even require silicon.\n<p>\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2010\/09\/solar-hahira.html\">\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none;\"   src=\"http:\/\/valdostadailytimes.com\/archive\/x955425764\/g0a0000000000000000221612156e3edbfd91dc962b678cb23131b836e4.jpg\"><\/a>\nEven more than that could be done in Georgia,\nwith solar on housetops and business roofs.\nThe new county palace could have solar panels on its roof, for example,\nas could Valdosta City Hall or Hahira tobacco warehouses.\nThat kind of solar installation mostly supplies the building\nit&#8217;s on or local uses, and requires no heavy use of the grid.\nThis kind of thing was pioneered in Austin, Texas, as\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2011\/02\/sonny-murphy-talks-at-solar-groundbreaking.html\">\nChairman Sonny Murphy of Sterling Planet<\/a>\ntold me he was aware, since he talked to AustinEnergy some years ago.\n<p>\n-jsq\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Actually installing the Wiregrass Solar LLC plant is Hannah Solar.
