When the president of<br \/>\nGeorgia Power is the chairman of the water commission and 52 percent of<br \/>\nwater is being used for power generation, you\u2019ve got the fox in the<br \/>\nhenhouse,\u201d said Pete Marte, chief executive officer of Hannah Solar.\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>According to VDT commenter Solar All The Way:<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.hannahsolar.com\/hannah-solar-personnel.htm\"><br \/>\n<img style=\"float:right;border:none;\"\nwidth=\"90\" height=\"136\"\nsrc=\"http:\/\/www.hannahsolar.com\/marte-pete.jpg\"><\/a><br \/>\nThe CEO of Hannah Solar told us that in most other states solar industry<br \/>\nhas fewer regulatory hurdles than in Georgia. He urged everyone who<br \/>\nsupports solar to call their legislators and ask them to vote for HB<br \/>\n146. He said that they could have easily built a solar plant 5 times as<br \/>\nbig as the one Valdosta got. Other states are embracing solar&#8217;s clean,<br \/>\ngreen, totally renewable industry and creating jobs, jobs, and more<br \/>\njobs&#8212;like the solar panels made in Dublin, Georgia, and providing<br \/>\nincomes for 350 employees, some of which are going to be shipped out of<br \/>\nstate because Georgia limits the building of solar plants here. Georgia<br \/>\nPower evidently has a monopoly and keeps politicians in thrall.\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Col. Ricketts said in a VCLIA board meeting that the plant just<br \/>\nbeing installed can be expanded in two directions,<br \/>\nmaking it about five times its current size.<br \/>\nCEO Marte also mentioned (I believe to Mayor Fretti)<br \/>\nthat there are variable mounts that follow the sun,<br \/>\nand there are also mirror-and-boiler solar systems such as are<br \/>\nbeing used in California that don&#8217;t even require silicon.<\/p>\n<p>\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2010\/09\/solar-hahira.html\"><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none;\"   src=\"http:\/\/valdostadailytimes.com\/archive\/x955425764\/g0a0000000000000000221612156e3edbfd91dc962b678cb23131b836e4.jpg\"><\/a><br \/>\nEven more than that could be done in Georgia,<br \/>\nwith solar on housetops and business roofs.<br \/>\nThe new county palace could have solar panels on its roof, for example,<br \/>\nas could Valdosta City Hall or Hahira tobacco warehouses.<br \/>\nThat kind of solar installation mostly supplies the building<br \/>\nit&#8217;s on or local uses, and requires no heavy use of the grid.<br \/>\nThis kind of thing was pioneered in Austin, Texas, as<br \/>\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2011\/02\/sonny-murphy-talks-at-solar-groundbreaking.html\"><br \/>\nChairman Sonny Murphy of Sterling Planet<\/a><br \/>\ntold me he was aware, since he talked to AustinEnergy some years ago.<\/p>\n<p>\n-jsq<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Actually installing the Wiregrass Solar LLC plant is Hannah Solar.
