\r\nIn the packet for the redecision on the Howell Road Halfway House rezoning,\r\nthere are thirteen letters of opposition and a petition of more than a hundred signatures.\r\n

\r\nThose would seem relevant to this bit in the agenda sheet:\r\n\r\n\r\n

\r\nOverall, staff found the request inconsistent with the Character\r\nArea, but consistent with the goals and policies of the\r\nComprehensive Plan. The largest concerns for the TRC were ensuring\r\nthat the proposed use was able to be developed on the subject\r\nproperty and that its impacts to the surrounding area were\r\nmanageable. At this point, it is the hope of staff that the benefit\r\nthe proposed use brings to the community and the proposed site plan\r\nwith its buffering and setbacks will mitigate any potentially\r\nnegative effects on surrounding properties.\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\nThe Planning Commission heard the request and the concerns of the\r\nneighbors, and recommended denial by a vote of (8-2).\r\n<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n

\r\nIt would appear that the neighbors and others do not think that\r\n“its impacts to the surrounding area” are “manageable.”\r\n

\r\nThe Planning Commission agreed.\r\n

\r\nThe County Commission is already on record as not being overly concerned about Character Areas.\r\n

\r\nThis does not bode well for rezonings elsewhere in the county.\r\n
