\nA BILL to be entitled an Act to amend and supersede the laws pertaining\nto the governing authority of Lowndes County; to provide for a Board\nof Commissioners of Lowndes County; to provide for the powers and\ncomposition of the board of commissioners; to provide for election\ndistricts, qualifications, terms of office, and filling of vacancies of\ncommissioners; to provide for meetings and quorum; to provide for the\nresponsibilities of the chairperson; to provide for a vice chairperson\nand the vice chairperson’s responsibilities; to provide for submission\npursuant to Section 5 of the federal Voting Rights Act of 1965, as\namended; to provide for severability and effective dates; to provide for\nthe repeal of existing enabling legislation; to repeal conflicting laws;\nand for other purposes.\n<\/blockquote>\nThe actual bill still has\nto be approved by U.S. DoJ\n“pursuant to Section 5 of the federal Voting Rights Act of 1965, as amended”:\n\n\n\nSECTION 19.<\/center>\n \nThe governing authority of Lowndes County shall through its legal counsel cause this Act\nto be submitted for preclearance under the federal Voting Rights Act of 1965, as amended;\nand such submission shall be made no later than 45 days after the date on which this Act is\napproved by the Governor or otherwise becomes law without such approval.\n
