\nAccording to the\n\nOPEN Government Act of 2007<\/a>:\n

\n[T]he term ‘a representative of the news media’ means any person or\nentity that gathers information of potential interest to a segment of\nthe public, uses its editorial skills to turn the raw materials into a\ndistinct work, and distributes that work to an audience. In this clause,\nthe term ‘news’ means information that is about current events or\nthat would be of current interest to the public. Examples of news-media\nentities are television or radio stations broadcasting to the public at\nlarge and publishers of periodicals (but only if such entities qualify\nas disseminators of ‘news’) who make their products available for\npurchase by or subscription by or free distribution to the general\npublic. These examples are not all-inclusive. Moreover, as methods\nof news delivery evolve (for example, the adoption of the electronic\ndissemination of newspapers through telecommunications services), such\nalternative media shall be considered to be news-media entities.\n<\/blockquote>\n\n<\/a>\nIt’s pretty obvious LAKE qualifies as a news medium\nwith its blog,\n\nOn the LAKE Front,<\/a>\nas well as its\n\nweb pages<\/a>\nand its\n\nfacebook page.<\/a>\n

\nHere is the bill’s full text.<\/a>\nThe bill was sponsored by\n\nSen. Patrick Leahy<\/a> and\n\n17 others, ranging from Sen. Barack Obama to Sen. Johnny Isakson.<\/a>\nIt was signed into law by President George W. Bush\n\n31 December 2007.<\/a>\n

\nMost of what LAKE does has more to do with Georgia law,\nabout\nopen records requests<\/a>\nand\n\nthis passage, O.C.G.A. § 50-14-1-c.:<\/a>\n

\nNone of that requires a news medium.\nAny citizen can file open records requests or record public meetings.\nRemember,\n\nyou are the media!<\/a>\n
