Update 2022-12-18<\/strong>:\r\nCorrespondence: Proposed Rezoning on GA 122 at Skipper Bridge Road 2022-12-12<\/a>.\r\n

\r\nCounty Manager Paige Dukes said they are legally required to table the\r\n\r\nrezoning for a Dollar General<\/a>,\r\nbecause they were a day late on getting notices out,\r\nalthough she twice blamed that on the Valdosta Daily Times.\r\n

\r\nCounty Chairman Bill Slaughter said the applicant had requested tabling,\r\nand he recommended the second meeting in January (January 24, 2023).\r\nCommissioner Demarcus Marshall wanted to know why.\r\nThe Chairman said, “It works out for two of the parties involved, the county and the developer.” (Nevermind the people.)\r\nCommissioner Scottie Orenstein said “I’m not in favor of tabling something only to give the developer more time… If he has true intentions on meeting with the community and having a meeting with them, a town hall, something a little more official,\r\nthen I’m OK with that.\r\nBut not to just give them more time.”\r\nThe Chairman disagreed, “Well, I don’t think time is going to resolve anything in this particular situation.” Plus regarding the applicant, “We’re here to give them the courtesy if they make a request through that application process.”\r\n

\r\nCommissioner Mark Wisenbaker wanted clarified that the main issue was the date issue.\r\nAlleged County Attorney G. Walter Elliott reminded them they have to vote to table\r\n(the Chairman cannot just unilaterally table).\r\n

\r\nCommissioner Demarcus Marshall wanted to know if the Planning Commission knew about the timing issue.\r\n\r\n\r\nCommissioner Joyce Evans seemed to indicate they did (she was not speaking into her microphone, so I’m not sure).\r\nThe County Manager said they were notified, and the date issues was “literally recognized the very next day.”\r\n

\r\nCounty Planner JD Dillard said it’s in an Agricultural Character Area,\r\nbut “but CC zoning is recommended per the Comp. Plan.”\r\nNevermind the next intersection, at Cat Creek Road and GA 122,\r\nis already zoned CC, and is much farther from the Withlacoochee River.\r\n

\r\nOn\r\n\r\n7.a. Purchase of Between the Rivers, L.L.C. Property<\/a>,\r\nCommissioner Demarcus Marshall wanted to know the timeline.\r\nCounty Engineering Director Chad McCleod said they would close\r\nWednesday afternoon.\r\n

\r\nCommissioner Mark Wisenbaker wanted to know the purpose of the purchase.\r\nThe Chairman said, “The plan is to develop a park, an additional area there in a park, to be utilized by citizens of this community, and really, hopefully, regionally, for kayaking, outdoor activity, and that sort of thing.”\r\nCommissioner Wisenbaker said, “I just wanted it for the record.”\r\nThe County Manager added, “This does support the Master Plan that is currently before VLPRA related to our blueways in the community.”\r\nSee also\r\n\r\nLowndes County to purchase land for Troupville Nature Park and River Camp @ LCC 2022-12-13<\/a>.\r\n

Approval of Solicitor General\u2019s VAWA Continuation Grant Application<\/a>,\r\n\r\n7.f. Storage Area Network Replacement<\/a>,\r\nand a few others.\r\n
