\r\nThe newspaper of record reported on the unusual redo<\/a> of a zoning decision by the Lowndes County Commission, noting the Commissioners did not follow the law in at least two ways.\r\n

\r\nBut it did not say who discovered those infractions: the County Attorney? The County Planner? The Chairman who cast the tie-breaking vote? Somebody who sued or threatened to sue?\r\n

\r\nWant to dig into that question, VDT?\r\n

\r\nVALDOSTA — The Lowndes County Commission will have to revisit\r\na controversial rezoning decision in light of a discovery that the\r\noriginal vote was invalid due to a “failure to follow zoning\r\nprocedures.”\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\nOn June 16,\r\n\r\n the County Commission voted to rezone property located\r\nat 2193 Howell Road from Estate Agricultural to Planned Development\r\nfor a transitional care facility called Redeemed Living.\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\nDespite the Planning Commission’s 7-3 recommendation for denial,\r\nciting concerns about the impact on the subject property and\r\nsurrounding area, commissioners approved the proposal in a\r\ntie-breaking 3-2 vote, with Lowndes County Commission Chairman Bill\r\nSlaughter casting the tie-breaking vote.\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\nRedeemed Living is a nonprofit, faith-based recovery residency for\r\nmen to live sober after addiction. Brent Moore, the founder, plans\r\nfor occupancy to reach up to 52 residents and will develop the\r\nproperty in phases, with a maximum occupancy of five residents per\r\nhouse and one resident per cabin.\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\nAccording to the Official Code of Georgia Annotated…\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n

\r\nThe VDT story goes on to quote the law, probably from\r\n\r\nthe board packet<\/a>.\r\n

\r\nBut the VDT\r\ndoes not say who discovered the county violated the law at least two ways.\r\n

\r\nDid the alleged County Attorney do his job?\r\n

\r\nDid the County Planner read the ULDC?\r\n

\r\nDid the Chairman realize the error of his tie-breaking vote?\r\n

\r\nOr did somebody sue or threaten to sue?\r\n
