<\/a>\nSolar is expensive at the moment, but that could change rapidly.\nDavid Biello\n<\/a>\nSolar is expensive at the moment, but that could change rapidly.\nDavid Biello\n\nwrites in Scientific American<\/a> yesterday:\n\nThe U.S. Department of Energy (DoE) aims to change that by bringing\ndown the cost of solar electricity via a new program dubbed “SunShot,”\nan homage to President John Kennedy’s “moon shot” pledge in 1961.\n\n“If you can get solar electricity down at [$1 per watt], and it scales\nwithout subsidies, gosh, I think that’s pretty good for the climate,”\nnotes Arun Majumdar, director of the Advanced Research Projects\nAgency\u2013Energy (ARPA\u2013e), the DoE’s high-risk research effort. “With\nSunShot, the goal is to reduce the cost of solar to [$1 per watt] in\nthe next six years.”\n<\/blockquote>\nHm, so maybe \nRay Kurzweil is right<\/a>.\n
\nDoE Secretary Chu even thinks we could win something else:\n
