Adage ended plans in 2010 to build another\nplant in Florida.\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\nWhy is Adage giving up on Hamilton County, Florida?\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.powergenworldwide.com\/index\/display\/articledisplay\/3931103554\/articles\/powergenworldwide\/renewables\/biomass\/2011\/03\/Adage-biomass-ends.html\">\nChristopher Dunagan writes in Kitsap Sun<\/a>:\n<blockquote>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.adagebiopower.com\/news\/news_economic_roundtable.php\">\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none;\"   src=\"http:\/\/www.adagebiopower.com\/_assets\/images\/news_images\/roundtable_lg.jpg\"><\/a>\nMeanwhile, a similar project by Adage in Northern Florida also will not\nbe pursued at this time, according to DePonty. That project has been\nfully permitted and was about to move ahead if only the electricity\nmarket had provided the financial incentive, he said.\n<\/blockquote>\nHere&#8217;s the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dep.state.fl.us\/Air\/emission\/bioenergy\/adage.htm\">\nFlorida air permit.<\/a>\nDespite having that air permit and promising\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.adagebiopower.com\/news\/news_economic_roundtable.php\">\njobs, jobs, jobs<\/a>\nAdage is apparently not going to build in Hamilton, County, Florida.\n<p>\nThe source of the many stories on this appears to be\n\n<!--more-->\nJohn Downey&#8217;s article in the Charlotte Business Journal, 16 March 2011,\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bizjournals.com\/charlotte\/blog\/power_city\/2011\/03\/duke-energy-biomass-venture-suspends.html\">\nDuke Energy biomass venture suspends operations<\/a>,\nwhich is mostly about:\n<blockquote>\nAdage, the joint venture of Duke Energy and Areva, has canceled plans\nfor a biomass plant in Washington state and has suspended plans for any\nconstruction in the face of low demand for biomass energy.\n<p>\nAdage spokesman Tom DePonty says a number of factors left the\nthree-year-old joint venture without a market for its product.\n<p>\nThere is generally weak demand for power because of the recession, he\nsays. The low prices for natural gas recently have made it the preferred\nalternative for new power plants.  Poor conditions\n<p>\nAnd he says Duke and Areva had anticipated more movement by states and\nthe federal government to mandate wider use of renewable energy.\n<p>\nThe joint venture will continue, he says. But it has essentially ended\nall operations for the time being. \u201cWe don\u2019t anticipate significant\ninvestment at this time while the market conditions are so poor,\u201d\nhe says.\n<\/blockquote>\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2011\/03\/particulate-matter-is-a-killer-lisa-jackson-epa-17-march-2011.html\">\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none;\"   src=\"http:\/\/farm6.static.flickr.com\/5134\/5535014190_3d89a4ee0d_m.jpg\"><\/a>\nPerhaps he&#8217;s disappointed that\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2011\/03\/particulate-matter-is-a-killer-lisa-jackson-epa-17-march-2011.html\">\nLisa Jackson of the EPA says<\/a>\n<blockquote>\nParticulate matter is a killer.\nWe know it results in hundreds of thousands of deaths.\n<\/blockquote>\nAnd\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2011\/03\/particulate-matter-is-a-killer-lisa-jackson-epa-17-march-2011.html\">\nEPA plans to do something about it.<\/a>\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2010\/10\/biomass-a-sub-prime-carbon-mortgage.html\">\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none;\"   src=\"http:\/\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4126\/5093206520_62856bec5e_m.jpg\"><\/a>\nSo Duke&#8217;s plan to make big bucks off of &#8220;renewable&#8221;\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2011\/01\/brad-loftons-memory-fails-him-again.html\">\ncarbon-debt<\/a>\nsub-prime\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2010\/10\/biomass-a-sub-prime-carbon-mortgage.html\">\ncarbon-mortgage<\/a>\ntree-burning didn&#8217;t pay off.\n<p>\nBut beware.
