And of those\npromised jobs, about 120 will require post secondary education; they are\nnurses, physician assistants, dieticians and vocational rehab folks.\u201d\n<p>\nCCA is the fifth largest penal system in the country, behind Florida,\nCalifor-nia, Texas and the Federal Bureau of Prisons, according to\nLofton. \u201cThey have about 20,000 employees across the country,\u201d\nhe says.\n<\/blockquote>\nSo why do we need them here?\n\n<!--more-->\n<p>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/File:Federal_Prisoner_Distribution.png\">\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none;\"  width=\"200\" height=\"576\"  alt=\"208px-Federal_Prisoner_Distribution.png\" src=\"http:\/\/www.quarterman.com\/images\/208px-Federal_Prisoner_Distribution.png\"><\/a>\nThe U.S. has more prisoners both total and per capita\nthan any other country: more than Russia, more than China.\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.okraparadisefarms.com\/blog\/2009\/04\/5-population-25-prison-population-us.html\">\nWe have 5% of the world&#8217;s population and 25% of the world&#8217;s prisoners.<\/a>\nIs that anything to be proud of?\n<p>\nNot only that,\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.okraparadisefarms.com\/blog\/2009\/04\/us-leads-the-world-and-south-leads-the-us-in-prisons.html\">\nthe south leads the U.S. in prison population,\nwith Georgia as number four nationwide.<\/a>\n<p>\nThe south also leads the nation in obesity,\nbut is that any reason to want more of it?\nOr maybe Project Excel really is Project XL.\n<p>\n-jsq\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Ed Lightsey writes in GeorgiaTrend for March 2011, Valdosta\/Lowndes County: Taking Off about many good developments in Lowndes County.
