Rodock in his writeup in VDT this morning on\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2011\/03\/lowndes-county-commission-meets-monday-morning-and-tuesday-evening.html\">\nyesterday&#8217;s Lowndes County Commission meeting<\/a>\nincludes this list that was not displayed in the public meeting,\nyet was approved by the commissioners.\n<a href=\"http:\/\/loco.quarterman.org\/car41no\/index.html\">\nCar 41 No<\/a> where are you?\n<p>\nHere&#8217;s the list:\n\n<!--more-->\n<blockquote>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.lowndescounty.com\/content.asp?pid=22\">\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none;\"   src=\"http:\/\/farm6.static.flickr.com\/5221\/5552862633_da0642ef1a_m.jpg\"><\/a>\nA list of proposed projects for the upcoming T-SPLOST tax was approved\nby Commissioners.\nThe projects included were:\n<ul>\n<li>\nwidening Lake Park Bellville Road from I-75 to SR-7 and realign at SR-7 [US 41],\n<li>\nOld Quitman Road Bridge,\n<li>\nHowell Road Bridge,\n<li>\nOld 41 Widening from SR 7 [North Valdosta Road] to Union Road,\n<li>\nOld Clyattville Road Widening from I-75 to Ousley Road,\n<li>\nShiloh Road widening and bridge replacement from Val Tech Road to Snake Nation,\n<li>\nOrr Road Extension from Skipper Bridge to Bemiss,\n<li>\nNew Bethel Road widening from Lanier County to Bemiss Road,\n<li>\nSR 376 Extension from SR 31 to Old Clyattville Road,\n<li>\nCat Creek Road Additional Lane width and turning lanes,\n<li>\nVal Del Road Additional Lane width and turning lanes,\n<li>\nacceleration and deceleration lanes at Lake Alapaha.\n<\/ul>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.lowndescounty.com\/content.asp?pid=23&#038;id=142\">\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none;\"   src=\"http:\/\/farm6.static.flickr.com\/5305\/5553442686_7cc5e30a62_m.jpg\"><\/a>\nAccording to\nMichael Fletcher, county engineer, the total cost\nfor these projects would be $56 million, or 9.42 percent of the\nestimated T-SPLOST total of $600 million.\n<\/blockquote>\nI&#8217;ve added the bullets and the explanatory comments in square brackets [].\n<p>\nSome of these projects seem sensible, such as the Belleville Road one,\nwhich provides better access from I-75 to Lake Park.\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2010\/05\/pine-grove-elementary-closing.html\">\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none;\"   src=\"http:\/\/farm4.static.flickr.com\/3362\/4608778797_5c3d12f21d_m.jpg\"><\/a>\nOthers, such as widening Cat Creek Road, look like pure sprawl.\nThere used to be some excuse for that one, when Pine Grove Elementary\nSchool was open.\nBut\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2010\/05\/pine-grove-elementary-closing.html\">\nthat school closed last May<\/a>.\nWidening Cat Creek Road now only promotes development farther out.\n<p>\nRegarding widening old US 41 North,\nthe county didn&#8217;t succeed in getting GDOT to widen that road two years ago,\nso now they&#8217;re trying for part of it by a different funding method.\nLAKE warned people about this one\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2010\/02\/comment-on-the-transportation-plan.html\">\na year ago when we discovered it was on the MPO Transportation Plan.<\/a>\nThis is why\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2011\/03\/communities-watching-boards.html\">\npeople need to go to MPO and other board hearings and meetings.<\/a>\n<p>\n-jsq\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"LAKE is thrilled when the VDT covers things so we don&#8217;t have to.
