Rainwater Conference Center, 1 Meeting Place, Valdosta.\n

\nNote at the top of the invitation:\n

\nIt’s Your Decision.<\/strong>\nIt’s Your Choice.<\/strong>\n<\/blockquote>\nWell, not if you live in the county outside Valdosta, it’s not.\nCUEE is promoting\n\na referendum for Valdosta voters<\/a>\nin November 2011\nfor Valdosta to give up its school system:\n\n\n
\n“Shall the City of Valdosta public school system and the Lowndes County\npublic school system be consolidated by amending the City of Valdosta\ncharter to abolish the City of Valdosta\u2019s public school system and\nmaking the City of Valdosta public school system a part of the Lowndes\nCounty public school system?”\n<\/blockquote>\nIf that passes, the county school board will have no choice but to pick\nup the pieces.\nAnd county voters outside Valdosta don’t get to vote on it.\n

\nYou might want to read this before you get to CUEE’s event this evening, the\n\nSchool System Study<\/a>\non the Chamber of Commerce’s web pages.\nIt’s called “Study to Determine the Impact of School System Organization\non Economic Development in Our Community”.\nNote that’s economic development, not educational development.\nAnd by my reading the study report says consolidation won’t\nincrease educational performance significantly, and won’t\nreduce the overall total school budget.\nHere’s the\n\nPDF of the final report<\/a>. Read it for yourself; it’s only six pages.\n

\nWho is CUEE, anyway?\n\nCommunity Unification for Educational Excellence, Inc. (CUEE)<\/a>\nis most of the local people from the Chamber study group that\nproduced that report,\nexcept for the ones who dropped out when they saw the results.\n
