\nProtestors wearing respirator masks held signs reading “Biomass? No!”\nin front of the Valdosta City Hall building on Thursday. Members of\nthe Wiregrass Activists for Clean Energy, the VSU student organization\nStudents Against Violating the Environment, and other concerned Valdosta\ncitizens showed up to protest the construction of the Wiregrass Power:\nBiomass Electric Generating Plant.\n

\n“We already have solar power resources in place that we could be using\nand I feel like money should be directed towards that,” Ivey Roubique,\nvice-president of the Student Geological Society, said. “It wouldn\u2019t\nbe good for the community and even though I\u2019m in college here it\nstill matters.”\n<\/blockquote>\nThe Spectator article quotes from two speakers for whom LAKE\nhappens to have video, linked below.\n\n\n

\nS.A.V.E. president\n\nErin Hurley<\/a> spoke to the council members during the\nCity Council meeting.\n

\n“As a student I feel I have the right to breathe clean air at the college\nI attend, with this Biomass plant possibly being built here the future\nfor generations to come is at jeopardy and we want to protect our fellow\nand future students’ health,” Hurley said.\n<\/blockquote>\n

\n\n<\/a>\nAssistant professor of sociology\n\nDr. Mark Patrick George<\/a> also addressed\nthe City Council.\n

\n“I\u2019m just utterly confused given the public outcry about this across\nthe political spectrum, from conservative to liberal, why we’re still\ntalking about it and why we haven\u2019t decided as a community and you as\na body that it’s a bad idea,” George said.\n<\/blockquote>\n
