Abandonment of a portion of Salem Church Road  and Wells Road\" src=\"https:\/\/i.ytimg.com\/vi\/wDLu1pDdmsc\/hqdefault.jpg\"><\/a>\r\n<p style=\"font-style:normal\">\r\n<a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/wDLu1pDdmsc\">Video.<\/a>\r\nCounty Engineering Services Director Chad McLeod said, &ldquo;\r\nThe county received a petition from the landowner, which is TLV Limited Partnership, who purchased the property from\r\nLakewood Farms, to close a portion of Salem Church Road and Wells Road.&rdquo;\r\n<p>\r\nIt&#8217;s still listed <a href=\"https:\/\/qpublic.schneidercorp.com\/Application.aspx?AppID=631&#038;LayerID=11201&#038;PageTypeID=1\">in the Tax Assessors map<\/a> as owned by\r\nLakewood Farms LLC.\r\nThis petition was not in the board packet returned in response to a LAKE open records request.\r\nI have sent a request for the county to correct that omission.\r\n<p>\r\nThere was no mention in the board packet or in the Work Session as to whether\r\nanyone else who uses that public road was asked if they wanted it closed.\r\nSo far, at least one person who lives up that road for sure does not want it closed.\r\n<p>\r\nGretchen notes:\r\nWells Road is the road to turn on to go to Folsom Bridge Landing on the Little River. \r\n<p>\r\nThat is one of only two public access points to the Little River in Lowndes County.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\nChairman Bill Slaughter said over the weekend he received an email from\r\nthe Stalvey family saying they use Wells Road and don&#8217;t want it closed.\r\nHe asked for staff to &#8220;look closely at that.&#8221;\r\n<p>\r\nGretchen saw the petition letter.\r\nIt had four signatures on it.\r\nBut apparently not signatures of people farther north up the Wells Road.\r\n<p>\r\nCommissioner Demarcus Marshall noted that the\r\nMary Turner Lynching monument is on that road,\r\nand closing the road would limit access for the descendants.\r\n<p>\r\nCommissioner Mark Wisenbaker wanted to know whether Wells Road exiting\r\nLowndes County goes into Cook County.\r\nAnswer yes.\r\nHe wanted to know does it dead end in Cook County?\r\nChad could not answer that.\r\n<p>\r\nNo, it does not dead end; it connects with MJ Taylor Road,\r\nwhich is what Old Valdosta Road is called in Cook County.\r\nBut that makes quite a long way around if you want to get out from Wells Road\r\nand go west on GA 122 into Brooks County.\r\n<li>\r\n<a name=\"American-Rescue-Plan-Funding-Application-for-Utilities-Repairs-Expansion\" href=\"#American-Rescue-Plan-Funding-Application-for-Utilities-Repairs-Expansion\">\r\n6.b. American Rescue Plan Funding Application for Utilities Repairs\/Expansion\" src=\"https:\/\/i.ytimg.com\/vi\/KDwDnCZEAy0\/hqdefault.jpg\"><\/a>\r\n<p style=\"font-style:normal\">\r\n<a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/KDwDnCZEAy0\">Video.<\/a>\r\nCommissioner Mark Wisenbaker\r\nasked if projects had been identified.\r\nUtilities Director Steve Stalvey said the list is in the packet.\r\nAmong them is a water main extension.\r\nWisenbaker asked if we had to stick with that list,\r\nor could we go elsewhere.\r\nStalvey said he would check.\r\n<p>\r\nCommissioner Demarcus Marshall\r\nsaid Wisenbaker was referring to the water main from Val Del Road to\r\nMacMillan Road, which is still agricultural, not residential,\r\nand we could use that money better elsewhere.\r\n<p>\r\nChairman Bill Slaughter said it was about looping the water system\r\nfor redundancy.\r\nAnd &ldquo;regardless of what the character area is, this is the route\r\nthat has been chosen&#8230;.&rdquo;\r\nHe said it was to connect up Bemiss Road and the school [Pine Grove School].\r\n<p>\r\nCommissioner Marshall said another concern was the Alapaha deal\r\nneeds another well; could we use some of this money there.\r\n<p>\r\nChairman Bill Slaughter said we could look at all that,\r\nand we need to get the answer to whether if a higher precedence project\r\ncomes up could we move the money.\r\n<p>\r\nGretchen notes:\r\nLook carefully what they are trying to slip into this repair and expansion.\r\nRunning water up Val Del Road to MacMillan Road.\r\nSupposedly under the guise of &#8220;closing the loop&#8221;.\r\nHowever, the loop is already complete as it ran across the county from Bemiss Road, along Orr Road and came out near Lucas Ricardson Road.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<li>\r\n<a name=\"Improvements-to-the-Historic-Carnegie-Library-Museum\" href=\"#Improvements-to-the-Historic-Carnegie-Library-Museum\">\r\n7.a.
