\n<\/a>\nSome local councils don’t even have open records request forms,\nand many don’t have them posted online.\nBut that doesn’t have to stop you!\n

\nAs mentioned,\n\nthere are plenty of open records requests still to be filed.<\/a>\nIf you want suggestions, inquire at\ninformation at l-a-k-e.org<\/code> (the dashes are part of the address).\nFor how, see the previous post on the\nOpen Records Act.<\/a>\nSend LAKE the results of your request and we may publish them.\nIf you want your name mentioned in a LAKE post as the open records requestor,\nplease say so.\n

\nAlso remember that any communications you may receive from\nan elected\n\n\nor appointed official may also be covered by the open\nrecords act, especially if it is sent from a publicly-funded\ntelephone or email address or on official letterhead.\nIn such cases you don’t even need to file an open records request,\nsince you’ve already received the communication.\n

\nSome longstanding open records requests haven’t yet been fulfilled.\nPerhaps it’s time to publicize such lack of compliance with the\nGeorgia Open Records Act.<\/a>\nAs you can see in that post, even the VDT has not always gotten\ncompliance from the Valdosta-Lowndes County Industrial Authority (VLCIA)\nabout open records requests.\nAnd I can tell you the VLCIA is not the only local government body\nthat sometimes stonewalls open records requests.\n

\nNews flash!\nWe’re pleased to report that while we were composing this post,\none of those outstanding requests was fulfilled, after only a couple of years!\n

\nMany local councils don’t even have their open records request forms online.\nSome don’t even have a form.\nYou can still file an open records request even if there is no form.\nUse a form from some other body, such as Valdosta or Lowndes County,\nand provide the same information for the body you send the request to.\nYou don’t even have to use a form: you can send the request by email.\n

\nStill, it would be good to get all the local councils and appointed boards\nto post open records request forms on the web.\nFor that matter, how about we get them to all post agendas and minutes?\nThe Industrial Authority, for one, still doesn’t do that.\nThe more people who ask them and others to post agendas, minutes,\nand open records forms, the more likely they’ll do it.\n
