{"id":2234,"date":"2011-04-04T13:00:00","date_gmt":"2011-04-04T17:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/2011\/04\/corey-hull-explains-tsplost-to-vlcia.html"},"modified":"2011-04-04T13:00:00","modified_gmt":"2011-04-04T17:00:00","slug":"corey-hull-explains-tsplost-to-vlcia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/2011\/04\/corey-hull-explains-tsplost-to-vlcia.html","title":{"rendered":"Corey Hull explains T-SPLOST to VLCIA, 15 Feb 2011"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=xDucmXf7v4o\"><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none;\"   src=\"http:\/\/i1.ytimg.com\/vi\/xDucmXf7v4o\/default.jpg\"><\/a><br \/>\nWhat&#8217;s this about yet another sales tax decided on by<br \/>\nregional transportation boards and GDOT?<\/p>\n<p>\nCorey Hull of the Valdosta-Lowndes County Metropolitan Planning Organization<br \/>\n(VLMPO)<br \/>\nexplained T-SPLOST<br \/>\nat the regular monthly meeting,<br \/>\nValdosta-Lowndes County Industrial Authority (VLCIA).<br \/>\nGeorgia HB 277, which was passed by the legislature and signed into law<br \/>\nlast year,<br \/>\ncalls for a 1% regional sales tax (T-SPLOST) to fund<br \/>\ntransportation projects.<\/p>\n<p>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/98706376@N00\/sets\/72157626302124907\/\"><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"border:none;\"  src=\"http:\/\/farm6.static.flickr.com\/5100\/5588453879_0249645e99.jpg\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\nThe region including Lowndes County has 18 counties,<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.sgrc.us\/region.htm\"><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none;\"   src=\"http:\/\/www.sgrc.us\/images\/region.gif\"><\/a><br \/>\nthe same counties as for the<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.sgrc.us\/\"><br \/>\nSouthern Georgia Regional Commission (SGRC),<\/a><br \/>\nwhich is the organization Corey Hull works for and that<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.sgrc.us\/transportation\/\"><br \/>\nhosts VLMPO.<\/a><br \/>\nAccording to SGRC,<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.sgrc.us\/region.htm\"><br \/>\nthose counties are:<\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\nAtkinson, Bacon, Ben Hill, Berrien, Brantley, Brooks, Charlton, Clinch, Coffee, Cook, Echols, Irwin, Lanier, Lowndes, Pierce, Tift, Turner, and Ware.\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2011\/03\/vdt-on-lcc-last-night.html\"><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none;\"   src=\"http:\/\/farm6.static.flickr.com\/5305\/5553442686_7cc5e30a62_m.jpg\"><\/a><br \/>\nAll municipalities in the region were supposed to submit a list of<br \/>\nproposed projects by March 31.<br \/>\nHere is<br \/>\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2011\/03\/vdt-on-lcc-last-night.html\"><br \/>\nLowndes County&#8217;s list.<\/a><br \/>\nThe City of Valdosta submitted an even more extensive and expensive list;<br \/>\nwe&#8217;ll post that later.<\/p>\n<p>\nIn June and July an executive roundtable will pick among the projects<br \/>\nproposed.<br \/>\nCurrent estimates are that T-SPLOST will raise<br \/>\n$55 &#8211; $80 million dollars per year, so the committee must<br \/>\nselect the project lists down to fit that estimate.<br \/>\n(I don&#8217;t know whether that is for this region or for the state.)<br \/>\nIn October of this year the roundtable must select the projects.<br \/>\nThe voters will vote on them in a referendum 21 August 2012.<br \/>\nIf the voters don&#8217;t approve T-SPLOST for a region, municipalities<br \/>\nin that region must pay a penalty.<\/p>\n<p>\nHere&#8217;s<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=xDucmXf7v4o\"><br \/>\nthe video of Corey Hull explaining T-SPLOST to VLCIA:<\/a><\/p>\n<p><p align=\"center\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" width=\"480\" height=\"390\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/xDucmXf7v4o\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><br \/>\n<br \/>\n<small><br \/>\nCorey Hull of the Valdosta-Lowndes County Metropolitan Planning<br \/>\nOrganization (VLMPO)<br \/>\nat the regular monthly meeting,<br \/>\nValdosta-Lowndes County Industrial Authority (VLCIA)<br \/>\nNorman Bennett, Roy Copeland, Tom Call, Mary Gooding, Jerry Jennett chairman,<br \/>\nJ.
