Eight\nlocal banks recently joined an economic development consortium with\ncombined assets of more than $1 billion and the ability to lend up to\n$15 million to companies seeking to expand or relocate. The funds are\ndesigned to support strong companies that want to grow, not an attempt\nat venture capital.\n<\/blockquote>\nAnd they didn&#8217;t just use it to buy up land.\n<p>\nWhat else are they concentrating on?\nEducation:\n<blockquote>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.heartofgatech.edu\/main\/Exec\/News\/January2008.cfm\">\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none;\"   src=\"http:\/\/www.heartofgatech.edu\/main\/Exec\/News\/images\/Wilcocareercoloringbooks.jpg\"><\/a>\nAnother prime asset can be found in Laurens\u2019 commitment to upgrading\nits workforce and ensuring that companies can find the trained employees\nthey need, says Dr. Randall Peters, president of Heart of Georgia\nTechnical College.\n<p>\n\u201cWhen people are thinking about moving to a new town, they want to know\nabout the education infrastructure, they want to know about the quality\nof the community, education institutions and that sort of thing,\u201d\nhe explains.\n<\/blockquote>\nAnd look, they&#8217;re even studying development patterns:\n<blockquote>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cityofdublin.org\/mayor.html\">\n<img style=\"float:right;border:none;\"\nWidth=\"196\" height=\"261\"\nsrc=\"http:\/\/www.cityofdublin.org\/officials\/Mayorbest.jpg\"><\/a>\n&#8220;From the research that we\u2019ve done, the baby boomer generation\ndoes not want to be grouped necessarily with an age group like your\n55-plus community,&#8221; Best says. &#8220;They want the old traditional\nneighborhood. They want a small town. They want a place to walk. They are\nnot going to quit working, so they are going to need a home office. They\nwant to see young people too, younger and older people.&#8221;\n<\/blockquote>\nIt&#8217;s almost like\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2011\/03\/urban-growth-boundary-portland.html\">\nmonoculture sprawl isn&#8217;t the answer!<\/a>\n<p>\nI&#8217;m sure Dublin and Laurens County and the surrounding aren&#8217;t perfect.\nBut let&#8217;s look what we <em>don&#8217;t<\/em> see them trying to attract.\n<ul>\n<li>\nNo <a href=\"\/blog\/category\/biomass\">\nbiomass plant.<\/a>\n<li>\nNo <a href=\"\/blog\/category\/cca\">\nprivate prison.<\/a>\n<\/ul>\nInstead they seem to be mostly going after clean industries\nthat actually employ people.\nThere&#8217;s an idea!\n<p>\n-jsq\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Jerome Tucker mentioned that it was Willie Paulk who enticed MAGE SOLAR to Dublin and Laurens County, Georgia.
